If I understood your question right Brazil is named after the brazil-wood tree, which was the Portuguese colonizers' principal export article in the 16th century (besides parrots and such paradise-birds, very much in vogue then, fetching the equivalent of up to U$50-100.000; gold and gemstones frenzies only commenced in the 17th century). It's so named due to the wood's reddish shading looking like charcoal glow, 'braza' in old Portuguese, 'brazil' being that word's adjective.
