It's due to the Portuguese colonization, there the races really mixed, like that lady on the pic, she's got indian, and white some where down the line she has some black in her (hair). I agree with you in the Nordeste region is a hit or miss.

Well, I think first off that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I don't think it is fair to call anyone ugly. I am sure that people walking down the street have thought that you were the most hideous thing that they ever saw, of course noone is really going to say this to your face(I am not calling you ugly I am just saying not everyone will find you attractive). Also, women more south of Brazil tend to enhance themselves in many ways with plastic surgery and what not, so I would say that helps alot. But an answer to your question is that what you asked is purely opinion because what you consider ugly someone else will find beautiful.

I've been to Pernambuco twice. I found that there are MANY women much prettier than her, including all ranges of European, Indian, African mixes. Of course, it was during carnaval, so maybe with so many people around, I only noticed the hotties.

Flying through GRU (farther south), I couldn't believe how beautiful the women in the airport were. It makes me wonder whether there is a mass genocide of all ugly/overweight women going on in the south of Brazil. Very suspicious.

Beauty is NOT in the eye of the beholder. People who think so are unwilling to face the truth. When the topic of discussion is looks only, then you have to and can be objective. Now, while she's not gorgeous, she's about a 5/10. I really don't think she's hideous.
There is nothing wrong with being ugly. Just be man(or woman) enough to face it, accept it, and try to make up for it with other skills and traits.
In other words, put Rosie O'Donnell in a bathing suit, and I bet you 8/10 guys would rather blow bigfoot than have sex with her.

Your a very cruel person may God punish you for this.This girl probably has the sweetest personality than say a Brasilian woman from the south i'm saying maybe. Not everyone can look like models this is how God created us this is what we have to accept.

Because of the poverty most times. Of course you can be poor and beautiful, however they are more than poor some times. They don't have money to care themselves. In Rio for example you can go to gym, buy a great shampoo, dye your hair... in Rio there are poor people too, but no very much, only people from favela.
