This is very typical. Brazil is not as dangerous as it seems. What foreign people don't understand, Brazil is not only Rio and São Paulo. And yes they are the most dangerous cities in the country, but the reality they are living, is not exacly the same in other brazilian cities. Crime and violence are everywhere in every country. I'm sure you probably saw the news on that little girl who died. It's everywhere here and the media is making this even bigger. There is no need to be scared, people die, people get robbed every day no matter in which country you live in. |

Brazil isn't so dangerous as you think. You don't have the real perception of living here, you just know what you see in the newspaper.I have 21 years old and i never been robbed but i don't live in Rio.I wouldn't go to Rio even if you give me money to do that! |

Picture this..... you need some sugar , you go to your neighbor and they give you a cup full. You have no money but need groceries, you just go to the store and give them an IOU. They know who you are and where you live so its easy for them to trust you. You walk on the street everyone compliments you either with a " hey how you doing" or with a smile. I have lived in the US for 15 years and honestly my neighbors have never walked out and said Hi to me. I dont even know their names. Everynight of the week or weekend you have something to do, you never get bored.
As far as crimes, you never find a neighborhood like ours there. All houses have huge fences surrounding it or brick walls. There is the same amount of crimes in brazil as there is in the US. So dont be afraid just dont flash your rolex out the window of a car....hahahah |

They are just happy people. It is wonderful to live there. The cost of living is not very high, you are surrounded by BEAUTIFUL scenery, and people are friendly.
The crime rate IS high, but if you are smart you would most likely never be affected. Just don't walk down the street with a ipod or whatever. If someone does want to rob you they will come up to you tell you to give whatever they want to them. Give it to them and they will go away. In Brazil they generally don't want to hurt you. They just want your stuff. They will not mug you like people might in US cities.
I hope this helped you become a little less scared. |
