Why Does Brazil Have Such A Low HDI ?

It ranks in at a pathetic 70. That means there are a whopping 69 countries in the world with a better/superior quality of life than Brazil. No wonder there are millions of Brazilians living in the U.S, Europe, and Japan because they know Brazil is a lost cause when it comes to financial opportunities.

Brazil is a huge country(same size as the US) that has lots of HDI potential. However the reason why Brazil has such a low HDI is because poverty eventhough spread throughout Brazil, is extremely concentrated in the North and the Northeast of Brazil. These regions are predominately Black and Indian(amazons) so likewise these areas are neglected. There are whites but they are generally the rich. Since the rich enjoy the dichotomy in classes that pamper their high standards of living these areas remain poor and obviously bring down the countries' HDI as a total . The state governments in the north invest little money in public primary and secondary education and private primary and seconday education is geared for the white elite that attend free college in the south. If you go to Rio de janeiro and Sao Paulo you will see less blacks and Indians and thus you will see a higher HDI. In the South the poor are concentrated in the Favelas(ghettos). You will also see lots of race mixing in Brazil 5x more than the US. Unfortunately, this is the reality. Look at movie City of GOD. Its like the rest of the World. The Brazilians that live abroad are usually white to somewhat mixed and range from middle to higher class. The black and Indian brazilians are the poorer of Brazil and obviously are still there. I hope this helps.

Things may be changing. The economy is booming and lest see how/if Brazil can harness this into improved quality of life.

I don't know much about Brazil's low HDI score. However, when I visited the country in 1991, I thought the people were very nice and the country was beautiful. It is a shame that in Rio, there is so much crime (I saw a girl shoplift). I didn't feel it was any different than any other big city in the world (Mexico City was definitely a dump!). I was only in San Paolo's airport, so I didn't see any of the city. I am impressed that Brazil has become almost completely independent from oil and the US could use a lesson in their transformation.

I always defended the theory of that only schools of excellent quality will change the Brazil. for a population that in its majority does not have food, the concern with corruption is something very distant of the reality of them. it does not make sensible. in my opinion this is what it promotes the perpetuation of the poverty in this country.
In my company we are using the tourism to include poor people in the economy. They act receiving tourists in his houses. I hope it can be usefull.

Well, our presidente has promised he would make Brazil a better place economically. Before this Brazil wasn't in this list. We need improve of course but it happens after a time, step by step.

Brazil:

- 9th largest industrial economy in the planet
- about 86% of the population lives in cities
- Brazil is richer in terms of GDP than Canada and Russia
- the development human index is 0,8
- brazilians invented the airplane, flex-fuel cars, wristwatch (of course you never knew that, how can an ape do this?)
- brazilians export cars, mobile phones, airplanes (and not only coffee as you believe).
- about 5% of the population live in shanty-towns, 50% of the total in Rio de Janeiro (and not 100% living in shanties)
-Brazil has more millionaires than giant economies, such as Russia and India.

Now, I think you should think more about what you talked. OK?
