Why Is It That Even The "Safest" States In Brazil Are Still Dangerous By American Standards ?

Deemed 2 of Brazil's "safest" states which is Santa Catarina and Piaui yet they still have a per capita homicide rate that is higher than that of the United States national average. Santa Catarina and Piaui have have 10.9 murders per 100,000 people compared to the U.S's 5.5 per 100,000 people. So basically not a single state in the entire country of Brazil would be considered safe by American stnadards since even the so-called "safest" places in Brazil are still alot more violent than the majority of places in the U.S.

Yeah, Brazil is violent, but America has all this countries with less homicide rates, so, US has to get way down the list to become a reference in homicide rates..

You again man!?
Maybe the problem is that you don't do nothing to solve it and are complaining about a thing that doesn't affect you!
Let we Brazilians solve this problem and go take care about yours, but i still thinking you're a revolted Brazilian who thinks is been "SMART" criticizing your own country!

I think you are worrying too much. It is simple: the americans just choose another country to go. It is unfair to compair the richest and powerful country of the world with a third world country (although in great development).
I like Brazil any way, for other many great things and beauties I've heard Japan is one the safest country and I don't want to go there, just doesn't attract me. But if you are looking for safety there is where you should go.

Brazil is a great country, but it does have a big crime problem due to the millions of people who live in poverty and have to resort to crime to survive.

Rio has two Farvelha (slums ) that have 600,000 people each. That is why crime is so high there.

I have been to Brazil on business about 20 times and have many brazilian friends. Every one of them talks about their fear of crime.

zezinho
And... If you´re in United States, you should be worried with China and terrorists, and not with the violence in Brazil.

Black Dude
Good point sergio , American men are rapists , they have no right to talk about Brazil like that .
