Why is milk not sold in Brazil and Mexico? |
I've noticed on my travels that milk, from a cow (they do sell synthetic milk), is not sold In Mexico and Brazil and I would assume in other Latin nations. Yet, Ice Cream and yogurt are sold here.
Why is milk not sold here in Brazil? Additional Details I am staying in Natal, RN. I didn't know milk could not be refrigerated and still be milk. |

I think you are confused as to what synthetic milk is. In Brazil the milk is sold in boxes that can be kept at room temperature. But this does not mean that the milk is synthetic.
The cow milk in Brazil goes through a UHT (Ultra High Temperature) process. The milk is brought to 275 degrees for 1-2 seconds. This kills all the bacteria that would spoil the milk if it sat at room temperature.
In America the milk is brought to 161 degrees for 15 seconds. This does not kill off all spores and the milk spoils much faster at room temperature.
Brazil (along with a good portion of Europe) prefer this method. I do to for the fact that the milk can sit at room temperature. This cuts down on energy used by refrigeration (think of all the extra gas used by semi's as they keep milk refrigerated.) |

You can get normal milk in Brazil. However it comes in 1 liter bags that are sold behind the counter at some bakeries or supermarkets.
It's kinda hit and miss. |

I didn't understand your question.
Are you saying that in Brazil we consumed synthetic milk?
Where did you read that?
Does Brazil have the largest flock of cattle of the world, why hell we would consume synthetic milk?
I know that the flavor of the milk in Brazil is different from the flavor of the milk in the United States due to the fact of the cows in Brazil be fed with pasture unlike the American cattle that feeds of ration to give flavor different to the milk. |

Well I haven't been on Brazil but in my country Colombia, the milk directly from the cow is available in the country, but I think that in Mexico is also sell, I think you have to investigate because in Latin America is easier to get cow milk rather than synthetic milk |

Actually you're wrong. I drink milk everyday and actually milk is one of the most important products of my state's economy. But some areas, which is not the case of where I live, but maybe it was the case of where you've visited, are too far from any producing area, so they have to use synthetic milk. Milk is a product with very short time of life, so you can't send from a place very far away from the producing areas. |
