Americans, what are your views on Canada? What are some of the assumptions you have about our culture?

Additional Details
I'm asking out of pure curiosity, not to "justify" us to them, as some people may think

I know that you have excellent health care. You're supposed to be quite friendly. Canada is really beautiful, but the tax is pretty high, and things are a bit more expensive, Quebec is mostly french-speaking, and you guys say "about" funny. I'm not trying to be an asshole or anything :) but that's all I know.

...I've actually been toying with the idea of moving there!! :)

I'm from Texas and I've always said that if I were to live anywhere else, it'd be Canada. Yalls health care system is great!

1. You are insane drivers. (Thats not an assumption)
2. You are very proud of your country
3. Almost everyone in Toronto seems to be Asian
4. I live right near Canada, so I don't really see that much of a difference between culture too much(when I travel, people always ask me if I'm Canadian because of my accent). I mean, culture doesn't immediately change once you cross an imaginary line. It bleeds and mixes.
5. The Tragically Hip and HNIC rock

I am Canadian. I once heard an American think that when they crossed the border, the temperature immediately dropped twenty degrees because we use Celsius and they use Fahrenheit.

As an American I think of you as our good neighbors to our north. We have been allies in two world wars and In Korea as well.I feel bad that General Arnold wasn't able to free you from the British but those are the fortunes of war and Revolution eh?

Who cares what Americans think of us. We were not placed here to justify ourselves to them. We are Canadians and damned proud of it.

Americans have a time honoured tradition of not caring what the rest of the world thinks of them so why would we lend any credence to what they think of us.

I just wish they would keep their hands off our Natural Resources and their noses out of our Political Affairs.

i myself am not American, but i have visited the United States many times. every time i go there i'm asked what it's like to live in an igloo. seriously. and they sometimes try to get me to say "about" (i DO NOT say "aboot"!!)

First off: life is good- I cannot believe you would automatically steriotype every american into one catagory. That is about the least intelligent thing I have heard in a while. anyways... to address the question...

As far as i knew canada was almost identical to the USA in every way. Sure, you had a different governmental system, and it IS a different country, but I really didn't think it would be any different. Its not like you dont have running water and toilets up there. After visiting though, I have to say there are some key cultural and social differences. of course i didn't get all over canada, and i would hate to make any judgement based off of a few people, but what i observed while i was up there was:
1. There are far more homeless people.
2. There are far more unhappy people (many many fights on the streets observed in just five short days, something I've never seen here)
3. The military were very rude (haha go figure. whos isnt?)
4. The liquor laws suck in B.C.

None of that is what i would have expected up there. I personally assumed the opposite of that. Kinda figured everyone was happier and healthier and friendlier and whatnot. I hope next time im up there its a bit better.
