Normally 6 -8 weeks from the time you file the paperwork, there are ways to expedite this, however given the current influx of application due to changing restrictions at the US Canada Border you are looking at about 5 months.

It took me a couple of weeks and I'm not even Canadian.

It takes a few weeks usually, but the last time I got mine you could pay an extra $80 or something to get in a few days.

As long as all of the infformation in your application is correct, it is taking about 35 days currently. I suggest going down to a Service Canada site with your application to make sure it is filled out correctly before you mail it off. Better to find out then that something else is needed or wrong, than wait ANOTHER few weeks.
You can get the passport sooner, but you pay more.
Btw, passports are needed for air travel to the USA after January 23, 2007. (not January 1, 2007 as someone else mentioned)

Do your application online - it allows you to skip the line when you get to the passport office to finalize everything. We paid extra and had ours in about 3 business days available for pickup at the passport office. Honestly the most annoying part (time wise) was going to the doctors office to get my application signed.

Normally, it takes 4-6 weeks but alot of people are aplying for passport because if you fly to US, you are require a passport as of Jan/01/2007. So, it might take 2-3 months. Also, your passport is good for 4 1/2 years only, not 5 years as the government claims. Good Luck!

for a resident it can take up to 90 days but I got mine in 3 weeks and I was filing from the united states at the time. Not sure on non-residents what the wait is. Best advice, get it in asap...don't wait on the government.
