Are Americans becoming colder to Canadians? |
I was with my husband in a nice hotel breakfast area in West Des Moines, Iowa, on a road trip south.
We met some nice couples in the breakfast area, but when they asked where we were from, and we said 'Canada', a noticeable cold reaction came across from the others
Has anyone else experienced this? Additional Details My point is that they seemed very nice and normal, until my husband answered 'Canada' |

I think Canadians have developed a reputation for kind of a 'Little Miss Perfect' attitude towards Americans in the last 10 years or so, always scolding us about everything that's wrong with our country, always 'reminding us we're not as great as we 'think' we are', even if we didnt say anything at all, or ask what they think.
We're all getting kind of tired of it, we're on edge right now.
These people probably thought you were a nice couple, but when you said you were Canadians, they probably thought 'uh oh, here it comes', and were eager to cut things short and get on with their day. |

I encounter this all over the interweb. They consider Canada passive, and weak for not running head first into war. I think it's because they feel a lot of resentment from all parts of the globe, so they naturally purge their frustration to their closest relative(so-to-speak). |

Yes they are.
They are brainwashed into believing they are better than the rest of the world. Plus, I think Canadians have become more proud of our own country over the years and for some reason that offends the Americans. |

I have a Canadian friend that I talk to occasionally here. She is great. Perhaps they were just crazy and didn't like any "foreigners." Some people are very strange that way. I still like Canada. The same friend did a walk for breast cancer awareness. I so wanted one of the shirts. She said I would have to come walk to get it. Then she said, "you probably won't, you are one of those lazy americans." LoL |

I don't think so, well at least I'm not! Meeting people of various backgrounds is always fun for me. Of course I'm one of those people that question my government; so naturally I'm frowned upon. There are those of us that are not blinded by our own patriotism, that we can't see outside our own borders. Besides they were probably republicans! LOL! |

The world is into a major recession. All countries are leery of anyone else who may be taking a job away from them. And some people always assume the worst. Also, not ALL Americans react like that. I wouldn't get an ulcer over it. You need to become a Tough Canuk and just let it roll off your back or you will become a bitter old person and who wants to become that??
I have never been treated badly down there myself. That stuff seems to come out in this room more than anywhere else I have ever been.
Edit: I always thought Americans were pretty tough....... well until I read Bill's response. Pretty sensitive feelings, those are! We should all be ashamed of ourselves!
Ok Enough of that! Gotta go check out the next response. |

Funny thing is, the exact thing happened to friends of my family when they went to Canada, from what they said they weren't friendly at all, so I guess it goes both ways huh?
Edit: The thing is, they didn't have to tell them where they were from, their southern accents sort of gave it away, and the people made it clear they didn't like them. |

They are just jealous that's all. Americans hate the facts that Canada is a better country than the states. |

God knows, i went on a family trip to visit the american 1/2 of our family, and i think they are arrogant as hell, and alot of people didnt seem that nice to me either. Im always nice to tourist no matter where they are from when they come to canada, but i dont like americans in general just because of what they have done so far(arrogant, treated me badly, started wars, etc). |

yea I have exp the same thing from americans, they don't like us down there, but I'd be more worried if they did like us, that would mean we were like them...LOL
Edit: I personally would stay out of there if I were u.... |
