"Hi"......I got a gentle chuckle out of the word "entitled"...in any event ,to work in Canada, a foreign national must receive authorization or what is called a "work permit".

A "work permit" is a document issued by Immigration Canada that allows a foreign individual to work for a limited time at a specific job for a specific employer in Canada.

You will not require a "visitor visa" and are exempt from that .

As a U.S. citizen this can be easily accomplished if you are a skilled worker or have a University Degree in some profession or discipline and you can qualify yourself by utilizing this site....

This site will explain in detail what a "work permit' is ! *S*

...and this is a FAQ regarding "work permits"

Hope that helps ya ! *S* (Michael C)

Think before you ask. Would a Canadian be entitled to work in the United States without papers? Of course not so why would you even wonder whether an American can just cross the border into Canada and take a job?

I love my airman<3
no way
americans arent 'entitled' to anything here
they cant come here and just take a job ebcause they want it
they have to go through processes like every other immigrant
americans are no exception to the rules

sorry

Absolutly not you need the papers, even if your working for Canda on US soil it doesn't matter you need the paper work.

Just as it is illegal for Canadians to work in USA without a work permit, Americans need to have the appropriate paperwork in order to be allowed to work in Canada.

And regarding social insurance numbers (SIN), let's say you work for (being paid by) an American company and you come up to Canada to install wiring and a computer system for a customer, this is still illegal. Even though you would not need a SIN since your company is paying you, and your Canadian customer is only paying the bill sent by your firm, you would still need the work permit. This is because you are taking a job that can be filled by a Canadian worker. Your company would need to prove that no Canadian would be able to perform that job.

It's essentially the same rules that apply to Canadians who try to work in USA. "...What's good for the goose is also good for the gander..."

I remember hiring a young American man, I asked him during his interview if he had a social insurance number and he said yes so we hired him. First and second week went by and I kept asking him his SIN number to enter him in my payroll and he kept delaying, saying it was at home etc. Anyway, comes my deadline to transfer the payroll to the bank and he finally tells me he doesn't have a SIN! He expected me to pay him anyway. He was surprised when I told him he had just worked 2 weeks for free cause it's illegal for a company to pay a salary to someone without a Canadian SIN.

You'll need a passport, but I believe that is it
