Are Canadians familiar with the Scott Peterson trial that took place 3-4 years back? |
This is just a test to see if you really get all the USA news coverage in addition to Canada's news coverage.
If you do, then answer this question. "What do you think of Scott Peterson from Modesto, California? And what he did to his pregnant wife Laci Peterson?" Additional Details But Canada also gets its crazy stories I must say, like the manitoba greyhound bus story |

Its was kinda hard to miss hearing about Scott Peterson and his wife. It was the cover of every bad "national inquirer" type magazine that line store checkouts for quite sometime. I pick up about 300 US TV stations, from places like Spokane, Detroit, Buffalo, Chicago, Georgia and Pennsylvania on my satellite, so watching the US news is an option, but one I rarely partake in anymore. I enjoy my boring local news, where the most exciting thing to happen is a Ladies Auxiliary Bake Off, and perhaps the odd Semi vs. Moose accident which has closed the highway.
I, personally, do think he murdered his wife. There hasn't been a person whose acted guiltier since OJ. Sad really, when in this day and age divorces are a dime a dozen.
*Sure, we have a couple crazies here. . But I can turn on the news from an american town any night, and listen to broadcasts about wackos. They are few and far between here. |

I'm more curious to know if Americans get any news *other* than their own. |

We get all your news but you don't get much of ours. |

end is forever

We do get a lot of American news because Canada doesn't have as many wacky murderer/kidnapping stories as the US. We also get a lot of American tv stations, so we see the same CNN news that you see.
In response to your question:
Scott Peterson (in my opinion) is guilty of murdering his wife and unborn child. I believe he is where he should be. In jail.
EDIT:
Yeah, we do get the odd crazy news story, such as the Greyhound bus incident, but these are rare compared to what goes on (or perhaps what makes "good" news) in the US. As someone else mentioned, Scott Peterson's story was on the cover of nearly every magazine at the grocery checkouts. We mostly get US-based publications: People, National Enquirer, Star, Us, etc etc. |

I don't know enough about the case to say if I think he's guilty or innocent, but I do know he supposedly murdered his wife when she was almost full term. But yes, we do get a lot of American news in Canada... also has a lot to do with the fact that in the city I'm in, we get a lot of American channels. |

Because USA is so close to Canada and we are influenced by your culture, yes we often hear about your news.
We know about Scott Peterson. Even before I saw you mention the wife, I was going to say wasn't his wife's name Laci and she was pregnant? I could not tell you for sure if he went to trial yet, or if he was convicted. I believe that he was and is now in jail for murder, but so much news comes up here that I would have to look it up.
The more recent news that we heard from USA was Obama choosing his VP candidate, Joe Biden. We get the Democratic Convention on all the US channels up here so can follow it if we want. Before that it was the Detroit mayor going to jail for coming to Canada for a conference when he was not supposed to leave the country (due to a perjury charge pending in Detroit courts)
And yes, Canada is getting almost as bad as USA now for it's tragic stories and crazies. We had the Manitoba bus beheading, the school shooting in Montreal by Kimveer Gill, and the drive-by shooting on the day after Christmas in Toronto of Jane Creba, an innocent caught in a gang turfwar. |

This wasn't news, it was a silly gossip story about a tragedy.
Whether inane or hard news, I'm pretty sure that Canadians have a better understanding of U.S. news than Americans, and that Americans have virtually no understanding of Canadian news.
