not usually.......we dont like being called a State of America, we hate it when people ask us in July if we have snow, yes we have electricity everywhere, are generally quite civilized, our education about our neighbours is much superior then yours. |

People are people. If you treat people well you will win them over and they will treat you well in return unless they are just hopless butt's. If you appear arrogant or throw off on their culture then yes, they will be rude just as we would if we were being attacked. The US doesn't have ownership of the American name. They are American just as Mexican and United States inhabitants. A smile will get you everywhere. We can't stereotype a group of people because of size, height, color, education, creed, or anything else. If we did we'd have to cull all humans as no one is perfect..... |

Nope. Just like you don't like to be insulted, neither do we. It goes both ways........ |

Well, I am Canadian and I am not rude. I have been to a few cities in Canada and have found most to be very polite and warm people. There may be some exceptions, I live in Montreal and have found Montrealers to be quite rude. The way they drive is terrible and just as bad are those who take the buses and subways. Everyone has to be first and if you open a door for someone it is really rare you get a thankyou! Just my observation! But, on the whole Canadians are very warm and polite! |

It is just that we don't like being insulted, like every other person. If we're insulted then we're going to be rude. Mainly Canadians are great people, kind and friendly nature. Insult them and then you'll be insulted yourself. |

i think it's just you. Not everyone in the world is 100% polite all the time and it's too bad you met some rude ones wherever you were, but I don't think you should be asking if Canadians are rude...the question should be..are PEOPLE rude? Live and let live dude, don't brand me as rude just cause i live in Canada. |

it depends what you mean by rude, if someone looked pissed off or a some sort of look on their face it could mean that they are stressed out or having a bad day. Not every1 is going to be smiling 24/7, because most of us have busy lives and families to take care of and its hard work. Some Americans have asked me, if we get snow in Canada all throughout the year. We have different climates all over the country and we are fully developed just as the US and were alot more accepting to immigrants. I'm not saying Americans are all bad people, its just some of them believe stereotypes about other nations and people. Unless you go see a specific country for yourself then, you wouldn't really know much about it. |

We were apparently the most polite people in the world. But...
I recently saw a Canadian show that said a survey found that Americans from Alabama and Georgia were more polite in holding doors, forms of address, etc.
We do swear about our taxes though. |

The truth is that if you meet someone from Canada who happens to live in a province such as Ontario or Quebec, then you stand about a 90% chance of being treated rudely in some form or another. The reason for this is because they are all born and raised under the conception that they are the center of the universe. Plus they happen to represent about 60% of Canada's population, which means you have a fairly decent probability of meeting a rude Canadian. |

Generally, I am rude to everybody but that's only because I work insane crazy hours in a grocery store for little pay. Otherwise I am quite nice :)
However, I am rudest of all to unknowing American tourists who state that people in Montreal don't need jackets because we walk underground all day. Asking if parking signs have American or French numbers on them. And then complimenting me on my fluency in American on the way out.
Just one of my stories. Also, I am generally rude to other Canadians as well (i.e. those not from Quebec) who pronounce it poo-teen (it's poutine... like... putzin I guess...) and ask if their Canadian dollars will work and what our exchange rate is.
But that's just me :) |
