If you have a referral from a GP then yes it's free*. In fact, many tests that a GP will have to charge for under OHIP are free when referred to a specialist.

*Paid for by heavy taxes.

I live in Saskatchewan, and was referred to a dermatologist by my GP. I did not need to pay for it at all, and I don't have any health plan or insurance!

Ted
The answer is yes. I have one for my allergies and every visit is paid by OHIP.

thinkingtime
I was referred to a dermatologist without any charge or expense to me.

Actually, I don't pay taxes - look, no income. I am very grateful for a medical system that didn't dump me when I got sick and lost my job. It was worth every penny of the taxes I paid.

Not sure about ON, but in AB certain treatments are covered by the health plan, and some are not. All cancers are covered but wart removal is not. Check with the provincial gov to find out in detail exactly what they consider essential

catwomanmeeeeow
Nope. You'd need private insurance (or a group plan from your place of employment) for that.

OHIP covers most (meaning not things like doctor's notes for employment) medical services. That is, services provided by trained and qualified medical doctors. A couple of other responders have mentioned that a referral from a doctor means it would be covered but that is not necessarily correct. A medical doctor can refer a patient to a counsellor (meaning not a psychiatrist) but that counsellor's services would not be covered by OHIP.
If a dermatologist is a medical doctor then the services should be covered by OHIP.
