The Great Lakes are the largest fresh-water lakes in the world. They are not referred to as the Canadian Great Lakes because four of the lakes are shared with the United States. The border of Canada and the United States go right down the middle of them. The only Lake which sits totally in the United States is Michigan.

All freshwater.

The Great Lakes are the largest freshwater inland lakes. Michigan, Superior, Huron, Ontario, and Erie-5 total, as most of us in Michigan and our Canadian Border friends were taught in school. I've never heard any of them referenced as Canadian Great Lakes as they are almost always mentioned with Michighan--The Great Lakes State.(Maybe because I don't live in Canada either.)
