The last train leaves Yonge/Bloor station in Toronto at 1:54am every night, but yeah it's best to get there a bit earlier. If you're with someone then it should be fine. I go out often and haven't had any trouble taking the subway at this time of night. Some stations are a bit dodgier than others, though. If you miss the last train at the subway station there is a night bus that runs along Bloor street all night and makes all the same stops as the subway train does. Riding the night bus feels a bit safer because there's always SO MANY people waiting for it, so you're never really alone. Another option is taking a taxi, they're really easy to catch everywhere downtown, but it's rather expensive.
But generally I wouldn't be worried about my safety on the subway at night, just make sure you go with a buddy. |

Yes, they're pretty safe. The most dangerous part is exiting and entering the stations in quiet locations, so just stick to well lit areas and move with any group of people you see, if you can. Once you are down to the platform, there is a DWA (designated waiting area) that is well lit, has a bench, and has an alarm if you need assistance. Also, when the subway stops, the car with the conductor will be next to the DWA, I recommend sitting in that one as there are usually the most people and if you do have any problems you can notify the conductor/driver for assistance.
I have been taking the subway alone at night as a young woman for years without any notable problems. |

Yes they are safe. There are always some dodgy characters or drunk people or whatever but they are definitely as safe, or safer then any similar metro system.
There are TTC police and security cameras everywhere.
Toronto is a very safe city. |

Ive done the subways at 1:00am, its quiet, as long as your alert, you should be fine. |

theyre not bad... just stay close to people if you're worried. like the others said, some drunk people and some people that are nuts. but you get them during the day too. LOL. |
|

TRUTH IS RELATIVE
|
I have never seen anything but a few drunk people. The shootings that do happen in our subways are strictly gang related and are few, nothing to worry about. |

pretty safe... just try to be as distant as u can from the ocassional drunk person u encounter. u can change from one compartment to another one at one of the stops if u find a dodgy character like that in ur compartment(or whatever u call it)...
I've travelled in the TTC at all times and even late nights and never had any issues...
One good idea is to sit in the compartment at the very middle of the train... a TTC employee sits in that one... he's the guy responsible for opening and closing the train's doors.. you'll be safe with him! |

Subways run till 12 AM and buses all night long I personally recommend taking a bus because you are with someone (the bus driver) and there are CCTV cameras. Subways Im not so sure. |
