Are there places in Montreal my car is more likely to be broken into?

unfortunately, i have had personal experience with that - our car was broken into last year when my friends and i took a road trip to Canada... we were in "Old Montreal" (or Vieux-Montréal in French), parked our car on Rue St. Paul (if I recall correctly, it was one of the major streets) and walked to a restaurant for a late dinner. when we returned, the back window of my friend's Jeep Cherokee was all shattered and the trunk looked like it was rummaged thru. Luckily, we had left all of our valuables at the hotel and there was nothing to steal. they probably saw our New York license plates and thought we would have all of our luggage in the car...so be careful around "Old Montreal"!

Like any city - it can happen anywhere. Crime rate in Mtl is not high but not low either. The 3 most popular places where cars get stolen in Montreal are malls, subway parking lot, and downtown streets. But again, if it will happen - it'll happen anywhere.

Not to my knowledge dear.

But then again... better safe than sorry, right?

P.S. Can I ask you something? Why do you keep putting your questions in this particular category?!?

Montreal is an extremely safe city. Of course, this doesn't mean that a car break-in can't happen but I would not worry about it. You are pretty much safe if you park in and around the downtown area. I have never seen of Montreal's homeless approach an unattended car. And Montreal always has a strong police presence, especially at night. So, just try to park your car in or very near a busy area. If there are a lot of people around, the chances of harm occuring on you and/or your car are slim to none.

I've been in Montreal for 20 years and I've never seen something like this happen. It's a really safe city. Sometimes I even leave valuables in visible areas in the car and nothing happens...

If you leave anything that might even look valuable in plane sight in your car and park it anywhere near the airport (like at a restaurant or hotel) it will probably get broken into. Thieves know that they can usually find laptops, cameras, and other easy to sell electronics in parked cars near an airport or hotel, or in a shopping center parking lot. I don't think this is unique to Montreal.
