Mr. Speaker

Aren't you, Canadians, embarrassed to be still ruled by the English Queen???

Aren't you? And, most importantly, why are you still ruled by England?
Additional Details
TO RAIVERAND RABBIT: of course, we are but at least he's our american idiot, not foreign

We're not ruled by England. She is our Queen separately from the UK.

The Queen is the Head of State, but has limited constitutional power. She has the authority to dissolve Parliament and force an election, but is only able to execute this authority if she is asked by the Prime Minister, or if the government is defeated in a vote of confidence. Note that the Governor-General of Canada, appointed by the Queen (but recommended by Parliament) formally acts as the Queen in Canada. The Queen seldom, if ever, uses her authority.

In a parliamentary democracy, the role of Head of State, while important, is not hugely important. Parliament (and specifically Cabinet) holds the bulk of power.

Go Blue
it's a symbolic monarch who holds no active power in Canada

nothing wrong with recognizing your heritage

Aren't you Americans embarassed to be ruled by an imbred idiot who holds your fate and future in his delusional hands?

Canada isn't ruled by england or it's Queen. They run their own goverment.

tuppenybitz
as im sure your aware she is just a figure head and your just stirring up sh-t

No, we're neither ruled by England nor are we embarassed to still honour the Queen. Canada is an independent nation, and has been since 1867. However, we did not gain our independence via a revolution, but through a process overseen by both Canadian and British governements known as Confederation. Basically, England gave us our independence without us having to force them out.

As for nowadays, the Queen is a figurehead ruler, just like she is in England itself: big on symbolic power, but with minimal real authority. Still, I'm proud to live in a country that has a "monarch" - I think it's kinda cool, actually, not embarassing!

The queen is a lovely and intelligent lady. She was born into a life that is always in the spotlight, and has shown nothing but grace and dignity in her role.

Although she does not take an active role in Canada any more (she is merely a figurehead), we still honour her as a lady we respect enormously.

Quite frankly, I would rather the Queen of England give us her recommendations and advice on how we should run our country, rather than letting some of the politicians we have in the world today do it. Too much sword-rattling and "mine is longer than yours" going on.

Are you that poorly educated? Canada is a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy. I'll explain it simply so even you can understand. We have a Queen. She is the head of state, but she is not our ruler. She is the Queen of England. She is not the ruler of England, either. We have an elected Prime Minister, and representatives from every province in the House of Commons. We are not ruled by England. Canada became a federal dominion in 1867.
We have nothing to be embarassed about. You, however, meaning you personally, do. A simple check of Wikipedia, or any of hundreds of history sites could have saved you the embarassment of showing your lack of knowledge on the subject to the whole world.

I find it funny that you Americans took one look at OUR Princess Diana and decided that you suddenly liked Royalty afterall. So much so that even before that, you were busy trying to come up with your own "Royal Family" - the Kennedy's. Nothing wrong with the Kennedy' s (especially John-John!!)- but... HYPOCRITE!! (You, not the Kennedys).

your an idiot and in depsperate need of a life!

we have queen?

===============================

uh....what's with the smart @ss additional details?..

oh.. I get it, you are jealous cuz your country doesn't have a queen. There are better things for you to be jealous of... such as.. the fact that your country doesn't have a two dollar coin in circulation....or .... the fact that people from other countries are not so ignorant compare to the Harvard and Standford university students who wish to bomb Saskatoon because their intellectual capacity is not much higher than boiled potatoes.

Yummy Canadian Mummy
Having the Queen as the symbolic head of our country is just that -- symbolism and nothing more. She represents the tradition and heritage that many in our country are proud of.

P.S. Us Canadians were all thinking "What the.... are they outta their minds???" when you and your countrymen re-elected Bush to a second term. What does it feel like to have a SYMBOLIC IDIOT running YOUR country.

P.P.S. It's called the White House because we lit it on fire and your people had to repaint it quickly to save face. BOO YEAH!

Any country that has a dead leaf (a dead leaf, for goodness sake!!!!) on their national flag shouldn't be embarrassed by having the English Queen ruling them.

To me, it would be embarrassing enough to have a dead leaf as an emblem - a queen would be a lesser embarrassment!
