Well If you are looking for a nice LAKE, then Lake Louise
in the Spring Or Summer Is beautiful. If you are Staying in Lake Louise, Banff is only about 40 KM Of Beautiful Breathtaking scenery away. Jasper is a lot further North.

I'm not sure of any specific hotels. All of them are nice :)
They all cater to worldwide tourists. That's what Banff and Lake Louise are all about!

The answerer above(pinkpiglet) gave some very nice suggestions. I didn't realize that Moraine Lake was so close to Lake Louise, and the other place she is suggesting, Emerald Lake is West of Lake Louise, and heads towards some incredibly spectacular scenery near Golden BC. These two choices will get you away from the touristy areas, but you will still be close enough to visit Banff or Lake Louise

Anyway you look at it, You will likely fly into Calgary, and have to drive past/through Banff to get to any of these other areas, so you won't miss it!

Jasper, like I said it quite a bit further North.

The Chateau Lake Louise is a very typical tourist spot. It has the most beautiful lake ever ever ever seen by human eyes and many activities to keep you busy. If you're looking for a more private escape and have the money try the Post Hotel. Nice pool area and amazing restaurant.

its sooooo nice it kinda looks like a castle
but its kind of pricey and it has a wonderful view of the mountains
hot springs are near, and so are the banff gondolas
i walked around in the hotel and it was relly nice

I agree with Lucy, the Chateau Lake Louise is breath taking and very beautiful. You may want to try Fairmont Springs Hotel in Banff too, really gorgeous!

Moraine Lake - near Lake Louise has the most beautiful lake and not as touristy as Lake Louise, although busy.

The Post Hotel is indeed beautiful as well.

Emerald Lake is gorgeous! Very secluded and romantic.

Chateau Lake Louise is very nice, as is the Banff hot spring hotel, and the Rimrock.
Lake Louise - there's a lake right on the property as well as a hike up to the tea house. 30 min from Banff.
Banff Hot springs - you have the hot springs right there, lots of places to walk around and explore, and has the river and some mini water falls right on the property. Johnson's Canyon and the inkpots are really close as well. The hotel is fairly close to the town as well.
Rimrock - the newest of the hotels, but the rooms are fairly standard - except the view! You open the curtains and rundle mountain is right there. They have a 5 diamond restaurant (which is excellent). You can take a gondola up the mountain. For lakes, rivers etc. You have to drive, but not more than 5 min.
Jasper is also a good choice. Not close to any towns etc. So if you want to get away from crowds and noise, this may be a better choice as Banff and Lake Louise are very busy places with tourists.

You can't go wrong with any of the above choices, but if these don't fit your budget Jasper is a little less expensive.

Everyone has been describing the Lake Louise/Banff area but I think Jasper, which is about a 3 or 4 hour drive further north, is prettier and has more to offer in the way of activities and scenery. It is not as touristy and crowded. It does not have a big fancy hotel like Chateau Lake Louise, but it has nice hotels, Pyramid Lake, Athabaska Falls, and several other attractions nearby. The one big hotel is on the other side of the railway tracks and is a low rise, kinda garden/cottage style. So as an alternative, check out jasper on this web site.
