Barrie is probably safest for kids, but really every city has crime. You have to look at several factors like employment, cost of living, access to good health care etc., not just safety. Each of the cities you mentioned has good and bad areas. Also, Barrie is on the snow belt which makes for some pretty bad winter driving conditions into the city. You really need to research more of the factors mentioned before making a decision.

Mississauga

neither...Go to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
A very safe place for living. Affordable housing - rent / purchase...Clean air..a nice place to raise a family.

I'd say Mississauga without a doubt. It's a lot easier to get to and is closer to Toronto. Barrie is terrible in my opinion because it's rather far from Toronto and tends to get a lot more snowstorms and is just dull and very... annoying to live in. And, I wouldn't live in Brampton.

U know this all depends where u will get a Job canada is overall safe for kids so dont worry which are u wil live.
every city have his own plus and minuses.
These all cities are less expensive to toronto having Job Opprounites (mostly Factory work for new immigrants.)
toronto is as financal Hub of canada so lot more Biz and employment opprutinites.
Rental is low in Barrie as compared to Missisauga and Brampton but on the other hand i dont know from which country u r cmng as people from Dif countries have Dif food and grocery requriemnts which Barrie might cant cater.if u r from Pakistani r Indian Orign i will suggest Missisauga as both have strong comunities having Grocery stores resturants and places of worship.
if u r from China/Philipines will sugest u Scarborugh specially Finch/steels from warden towards east.
best of luck

I'm familiar with all 3.

Mississauga is a suburb, and the city is quite large (over 500k now). 2 hospitals, lots of small older neighbourhoods, and way too many new neighbourhoods (bad urban planning). Mixed races - very much a new immigrant, new city feel. Everyone seems confused....

Brampton - kinda the same. Quite large muslim population, but not dangerous. Huge population boom in the last 10 years.

Barrie - I grew up there. Nice place, growing like mad! about 150k people last I checked. Farthest from Toronto (about 1 hour north) Good for young families, but not to great for work.

If you want smaller town feel, less expansive but lots of employment opportunties - check out Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph, Cambridge. Very nice area of Ontario. (about 1 hour west of Toronto)

Mississauga, like new project development, good universites, easy commute, etc.

FeatherHead
Without a doubt...Barrie.

CURVY
Brampton and Mississauga are both filled with Hindus and brown people of the like.....so if you like that, move to either one.
Otherwise, it seems most people are moving to Barrie....which is kinda nasty too!!!!!

Richmond Hill is your best bet!!!! :)

Barrie is the nicest and the safest. Mississauga is nice too and close to Toronto.

I wouldn't live in Brampton if someone paid me.

Mississauga is an amazing city. Not huge but not small at all. Great people, great shopping, awesome food, very clean, and seems to be extremly safe. There is a very low crime rate all over Canada in any case. And you're only about 20 minutes from Toronto on the free-way. You go through this smaller town called Port Credit between Toronto and Mississauga, it's also a lovely little town. I've stayed there 3 times. There are also quite a few job opportunities. Headquarters for Dolly Madison, Maybelline, and Cover Girl are all there! As well as Proctor and Gamble production facilities.
