Bear Watching in West Canada? |
We are travelling to Canada in July/August abd would like to see some bears in the wild, our plans see us in Vancouver, Whistler, Banff and Jasper national parks. Can we see bears in these areas? We don't really want to go to the north of Vancouver Island is this is a bit too far out of our way. |

We were in Canada last year and we went up Grouse Mountain, there are 2 grizzly bears there kept in a habitat. I know they're not technically in the wild but at least you have a guaranteed sighting and get some fantastic photos. We went to the Capilano Supension Bridge then up Grous Mt and spent all day there.
When we were up there approx 6pm in Late July we saw a WILD Black Bear also, from a far distance - just what u want!
Also travelled across Canada through the Rockies and Banff and this was our only sighting in our 6 weeks there - and we were looking very hard!
Found lots of bear tracks and their markings on the trees in Banff National Park.
Hope this helps! Enjoy ur trip - it will be fantastic!!! |

I also suggest to go to Grouse Mtn. because there are not only bears but there are also Falcons and shows that include Falcons. |

You don't have to go to the north of Vancouver Island... go to central island, in Port Alberni - they roam the streets there. Really, they do! |

In all honestly, you have a better chance to see a bear in Jasper, or Banff. There, those bears can either be a black bear or a grizzly bear. Vancouver island mainly has black bears....as for going north on Vancouver island, not necessary...Port Alberni is good, Port Renfrew is good, Mt.Washington in the Comox valley is also a good central(ish) spot for bear sightings. But, like I said Banff or Jasper will be a better chance, plus you will see mountain goats, cariboo, moose, elk, and maybe even deer. |
