Best of the two: Montreal, or Toronto?

Posing the question to folks out there who are natives of either city, or whom have relocated to either city from the US.
Please give pros & cons of both.
Thanks!

Montreal hand down.

Montreal is "steak au poivre"
Toronto is "salisbury steak"

BTW weather-wise Montreal is no where near NYC. Montreal is much much colder than NY try 10 deg C on average in the winter.

Montreal all the way. Why do you think all the kids (including drunk adults) from TO always come up to MTL to party?

Montreal is also a lot cheaper, safer, more friendly. Because it's smaller, you can get everywhere around the city really fast. We have good poutine, and yes, we do speak French but most everyone also has English working knowledge so you'll be fine. We also have one of the top Universities: Mcgill!

However, the weather here is a lot more humid in the Summer, which means hotter.

As for TO, well... it's bigger and smoggier but the roads there are a lot nicer and people aren't at crazy when driving. Their transport system is also better. Gotta give them that.

MTL & TO are two rival cities, especially when it comes to hockey and "which city's best".

Cheers,
V.

Montreal.

toronto is more english speaking so thats an advantage to an american that may not speak french, but its the largest city so it really feels crowded and industrial, there are plenty of things to do, yet the city feels like a generic north american city so its cool if you like that

montreal definitely has more individuality, access to outdoors and farming, its just a nice place, but living can include high taxes with half of your monthly salary going to taxes, 13% sales tax, and you would have to speak french in most jobs (but there are some english speaking jobs), so its nice but there is the high tax and need to be bilingual, which can be hard but you can get through it.

Toronto is definitely a whole lot safer than Montreal...

neither they both suck but TO sucks less than Montreal. Montreal likes to pretend that they are something they aren't and they have language Nazis

Toronto is the largest city in canada, lots of events, happenings, fairs etc. much along the lines of a big US city in terms of pro-sports teams, night life and diversions. Better business opportunities . Likes to think of itself as the centre of the Canadian universe.
Montreal is definately more relaxed, more cultural with the french its a very distinct city from any others in North America. Its fully bilingual so unilinguals can get along okay but will and should pick up french. Its still a big city so has its share of events and happenings as well. . Older, more history but economic opportunities not as robust as Toronto area.

Weather in both is about a wash... hot humid summers with moderate cold - cold winters much like Northern US.. NY, Chicago along that line. Both have decent recreational areas nearby.. Torornto the Muskokas and Montreal the Laurentians.

You should check out Vancouver as long as your thinking of migrating north. Thats were I would up after working in Montreal and being Toronto born bred.
