Best place to retire in Canada?

Any town or city that's away from the big cities and more remote and near the countryside.

You're probably going to get as many different answers to that question as you will get answerers (word?) I am retired and living happily on Vancouver Island just outside of Victoria. I have been fortunate enough to have visited every province in Canada as well as the Yukon and NWT. This is a huge and beautiful land and people find their niche from sea to sea. For me, Vancouver Island is home and where I'm staying. If I were to ever leave the Victoria area, I would go to the Parksville/Qualicum Beach area just north of Nanaimo. Beautiful, beautiful area, beaches, golf, recreation, temperate climate, close to amenities while retaining a small town atmosphere. A little piece of heaven on earth. However, if you decide to retire to the west coast just remember what BC really stands for: Bring Cash.

Oh yeah Pastrbuzz nailed it. Interior BC is probably the most beautiful part of Canada to retire, or right on the Alberta border somewhere so you're closer to Edmonton or at least a bigger city just in case. I'd say interior BC like Kamloops, Kelowna or Vernon. Or anywhere on the border of Alberta, e.g. Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise.

One of my favourite places in Canada is the Okanagan Valley- There are lots of towns / small cities to choose from, nice winter weather, dry in summer (though quite hot)!! The people are great and relaxed and you are a short days drive from the Ocean and Vancouver Island to the west and the Rockies to the East!

By the way? Why would you retire? Why waste your golden years sewing and playing golf? Find a good cause (orphanage, street kids, kids feeding program) and spend your free years there?!?

I agree, the okanagan in B.C. is one of the nicest places in Canada. It has beautiful mountains, the okanagan lake, tons of fresh fruit. Not too big of citys, not too small either. I beleive its one of the beautiful places to live.

it really depends on the weather you like i think; since "best" depends on ones personal preference

That really depends on your taste. For me, I would want to retire to Summerside in PEI, or somewhere in Newfoundland because I enjoy the food, and the landscape there. You could go to a quiet place in Yukon or the Norhtwest, but I think the food (yes, I'm all about the food!) shipping for there is costly.
