Best way to get between Toronto and Montreal?

Train, bus, rent a car, or fly? I'm looking for a not too expensive, convenient means of travel.

There are regular "commuter" flights from Toronto to Montreal. That would be fastest if the scehdule works for you.

The train trip is a pleasant one, but not the most time effective, and costs about as much as flying. The train trip is probably the most relaxing.

Rent a car is probably not cost efficient in that rentals usually cost more if you are taking the vehicle out of province.

My choice would be to fly. Return flights, staying over a weekend start at about $307 with West Jet, but you can often get a better deal, depending on when you want to fly. One way is about $159, again depending on when you want to travel and how far in advance you book. My choice would be to fly and rent a vehicle there if you need one.

I wouldn't choose the bus, personally, but return bus fare with Greyhound, with lots of scheduling options, booked a week in advance, is about $85.

I hope this helps.

My favorite was stopping off in Hawaii for a week in February to think about how I would get from TO to Montreal. Very enjoyable trip. You should try it.

I also recommend "commuter" flights or the train. Car rental would be too costly.

If you mean on a fairly regular basis, I'd suggest finding someone, or a few people, to carpool with. The 401 is chockfull of cars with no passengers. Or even, find someone who needs to move their car.

Just for one time, I'd go for train. More comfortable than a plane and from centre to centre almost as fast.
