Best winter coat for montreal?

I'm from buffalo so i'm used to the cold but montreal is sooo much colder. I'm going to college up there so i will be outside a lot walking from class to class. Whats the most fashionable and WARM winter coat? Thank you! Merci!

Right now, you won't need a winter coat as we are into the spring weather. Anything you wore in Buffalo in winter would be fine for cold spring nights and days here.

Once you are here for college and get accustomed to the weather, you may find you don't need a heavier winter jacket. But if you do, there are several places you can shop for one up here, or get one if/when you go back to Buffalo for Christmas or winter break.

More important than the coat up here is the winter boots. You can have a great jacket, but if you are walking around in sneakers or hightops, stepping in slush, and getting your feet wet and cold, you will feel cold all over.

If you want good warm boots, jacket, hat, and gloves, you can go for name brands here at any boutique or sporting goods store. Even Canadian Tire stores up here carry jackets and boots from Kodiak, Columbia Sportswear, Nike, and others.

And if you are on a budget (what student isn't?), you can still get great stuff at much lower costs from Zellers, which is the equivalent to Target stores in the USA.

my wife lived in Montreal. she always wore a jacket that had sleeves.
She doesn't like sleeves so she moved south to longueuil.

Buffalo and Montreal aren't that far apart as far as temperatures go, so whatever winter coat you already have to keep warm will do. Just make sure you have a hat and scarf and probably some mittens/gloves.

Peacoats were a popular choice here for Montreal students, as well as those puffy jackets with faux fur on the hoods.

If you're not used to cold winters, you better get a down coat. they are the warmest thgs around.

Sporty yet fashionable:
Canadian Goose is super popular now, well last winter. HA!
they are around 300$ but will last you for almost ever!
Kanuk is a Quebecor brand much like canadian goose. very price but a good investment.
you can also try North Face or Columbia. But make sure it's real DOWN!

There are a couple of army surplus stores on the corner of St-Catherines and St-Laurent. At the beginning of winter I bought an extreme climate winter coat. I have to tell you I have never owned anything warmer. They are very durable too. You can buy used (what I bought) starting aroung 75$ or you can get a shiny new one for around 200$ I love the vintage look that my 1974 coat has.

north face coats are great for the weather, i have one of those long arctic parkas and it does the job, although they can be pricey like a couple hundred dollars, but you can use them for years.

Anything at Kanuk (but they're pricey), or snowboarding jackets.

Parajumpers (for men and women) are really warm and very fashionable. Pricey too.
