Wow.... yet again I met another canadian today (in the States). After explaining her story she went on and on about how different canadians are from Americans. You all should just stick to your second national anthem (the molson canadian commercial) igloos and frozen ponds oh and mean mullets.... ridiculous. If canada ever grows up to be a big boy I sure hope they can learn to be proud about their country and not insecure. |

That's not been my experience with Canadians. However, I think the facts would support the opposite feeling.
Their media is not filled with violence like it is in the US. They incarcerate their population at a rate 7 times less than the US. In addition, they provide universal health care to their population, guaranteed for every man, woman, and child.
In the US, if I were to develop a debilitating illness and consequently lose a job, I would be without health coverage because insurers would avoid me like the plague. My daughter is not covered by medical insurance because she is not in school and she is not employed. A health crisis is a major contributer to bankruptcy in the US. People think that they are insured, are not necessarily immune because for-profit insurers look for ways to avoid paying claims.
Their president and neo-conservatives are not trying to dismantle the Social Security system. Their government doesn't torture people. Their government is not involved in a stupid foreign war for oil. (Iraqi exports are only $20Billion/yr anyway). Consequently, their currency is far more valuable today than it was just 5 years ago.
All-in-all, I'd like to make America more like Canada or France. The US is #37 in health care and the US has a life expectancy 3 years less than France!
Socialized medicine or not, their health systems are superior to that of the US. Unless your criteria depends on the value of stock in insurance companies, drug companies, and the medical establishment. |

We don't need to pin flags everywhere to everybuilding ,house and car to show we love our country ....we don't need to boo another countries national anthem or chant our countires name to every one at international events to feel proud of ourselves...
