Can I drive to Canada from Cleveland at 17?

I have a license and a passport if its needed to cross the border and back. Me and my buddies were planning on going on a little roadtrip to Canada by ourselves, but want to know if we'd be able to cross at the age of 17 and return normally. Thanks

yes, as long as you have your g2 you're fine.

CORRECTIONS:
Sparkle said it may be hard getting through with the Red Alert. The Heigtened Security Level's currently only apply to Airline travel. The level has stayed the same for United States soil and all border crossings.

Several people said you cannot enter without someone who is over 18. FALSE, you can cross the border as long as you can legally drive, AND you have permission from your parents because you are under the age of 18.

Anyone who can legally drive, can cross the border as long as they have proper identification to enter the country *AND* permission from your parents. You will need written proof from your parents that you can leave the United States of America.

You should have a birth certificate, and or proof of citizenship. A passport is currently NOT NEEDED to enter Canada. You should just bring as much ID as you have, it's better safe than sorry.

The Border patrol agents at the Canadian border may ask you questions like were you are going, for how long, and when you will be returning to the United States. Be prepared to answer all these questions without studder.

You should also know the address of the hotel or house you are staying at while in Canada (if staying more than 1 day), as they may ask you that aswell. Sometimes just the name of a hotel is fine, sometimes they want the full address. They might ask for the full address of were you are staying because you and your friends are under 18.

The MOST IMPORTANT DOCUMENT is the written permission from your parents to enter the country and your ID. The letter should include your parents full names (both parents), there address(s), and phone numbers, aswell as an emergency contact number. If your parents are divorced there needs to be a written letter from both paretns, seperatly. Your friends need written letters from your parents aswell.

IMPORANT: your parents may need to have the letter a notarized document, which means a legal government official approves of the signing OR they may have a US immigration and customs worker fill out a letter for them. The best thing is for your parents to call the county and ask about this. Your parents and yourself should also call Canada immigration for more questions about this.

For more information on Entering Canada see these websites:

Hope all of this will help :-)

Have a good trip. You can travel there as long as you have parental consent.

You can enter Canada @ age 17 but when you return due to the exchange rate & the fact that we use metric you will be to young to return to the States.

I'm pretty sure you need to be 18...call before...maybe you'll need a letter from your parents....

There should be no problem if you don't look too much like Middle Easterners, don't smell like pot, dress normally, and act mature. You will need a very good reason to be going to Canada, know where you are going and how long you expect to be there.

Why wouldn't you be able to.
Just make sure you cross at a major border like here in Detroit.
And it should be fine.
They seem to really look at you in the smaller crossings.
Don't get into trouble over there it could take weeks just to locate you.
We sometimes go over there for the freedom festival and with the traffic it sometimes takes 3 hours to get home and then they ask you that Q "Country of origin".
Well we like to say U A_ss because who would go through that if they were not from the US.

?
As long as you have a driver's license and are fully legal to travel.

CAN YOU DRIVE THAT'S THE QUESTION

You'll need a notarized letter of permission from your parents. Take your passport with you -- sounds as though George W. is going to implement the passport thing sooner than he had originally planned, so you may need it to get back into the US.
Have fun on your holiday, eh?

no, you will need to wait until you are 21 to be able to drive in Canada. They do this because the drinking age is 18 & they do not want underage american kids crossing the border just to get booze.
