Can I enter canada if I have a conviction for drink driving?

I am going to Canada next year and have an old drink driving conviction. I was banned for 14 months back in 2000. I have since passed my test again. I have heard various things about visa applications. Who can I get in touch with?

If you've passed your test again and got no more endorsement, it shouldn't be a problem.

I've checked the Canada house site and can find nothing to prevent your visit.

If you can get over the border crossing without answering any questions wrong or raising suspicions you can go. At the border, any border, you are stopped and ask a variety of questions, where are you from? Going? How long? Any declared items, like alcohol, firearms, for hunting & fishing, it is legal to bring specific amounts over border. But if any questions are answered incorrectly or if the border quard is having a bad day you might get asked to park and bring your paperwork inside. Most people answer right and are just sent on their way after showing id. But if asked inside Be prepared to be sent back home if your sentence for the Dui ended less than 5 years ago. Sentence ended, not court, if you got 12 months suspended license, then the end of that is what they look at.
Canada does not understand that even President Bush has two(2) DUIs. About every 7th American with a license has one since the courts here rely on Dui convictions, and most people will plead out and take a conviction, to pay the Courts bills. Back to your question though.
It is big problems if you have like an assault or battery from 20 years ago when a kid, the Canadian Border will find it, as they are linked to the FBI, not to any small site that would miss things. If you have a juvy offense be sure to get court paperwork stating it was when you were under 18, because they find those too. Their website is will give you a couple of options, like "Application for Criminal Rehab, information only" will tell you if you need to do more, like application for a temporary resident visa. If you fill out their forms like "App for Criminal Rehab, for approval" and pay the $200-$1000 (rich people only) they will let you cross but it all needs to be arranged 1 year ahead of time.

A DUI is an imprisonable offence (felony) in Canada and is automatically grounds for inadmissability.

This means that you should get ALL relevant documentation prior to travelling. You will probably have to apply under grounds of streamlined rehabilitation - see link. This is processed in a discretionary manner at the port of entry - check you will qualify first.

I know for a fact that Canada is WAY more strict when refusing Americans who've previously been convicted of a drunk driving charge.
My friend in Buffalo had to wait many years, and fill out loads of ppwk to be able to cross into Canada again. However, my friend here in Canada who has drunk driving on his record is able to travel freely to the USA and back.
