Can I get to alaska by Ferry without going though Canada? Have a felony and can't go though borders.?

Getting to Southeast Alaska is easy. There are sailing of the Alaska Marine Highway every few days from Bellingham, WA to Ketchikan, Sitka, Juneau, Haines, Skagway and other, smaller towns. You wouldn't need a passport for any of that, just a driver's license or some other ID that matches the name on your ticket (they implemented some security measures after 9-11),

Most people would then drive from Haines or Skagway through Canada to Anchorage, a distance of 800 miles. But you couldn't if your felony prevents that.

So you would have to schedule your trip for some of the ferries go from Haines / Skagway north to Wrangell (totally off the road system) onto Valdez (on the road system), Whittier (on), Seward (on), Homer (on), Kodiak (off) , Sand Point (way off) and Dutch Harbor (way, way off the road system.

You could then rent a car to drive to Anchorage, Fairbanks, Denali, etc. Or take a train from Whittier or Seward.

Why not just take a air flight - they don't stop in Canada, just fly over some of Canada. So no passport is required. No border is "crossed", no check is made other than your driver's license or other government-issued photo ID for getting on the plane. Seattle to Anchorage is most common but there are also non-stops from Portland, Chicago and Denver and in the summer also from Salt Lake City, SF, and Atlanta.

The Alaskan Ferry leaves from Bellingham, near Seattle and goes north. You may have to change boats depending on where you are heading. It's marvellous.

I don't know about Ferry trips since it would be a long one from Washington State to Alaska but there certainly are cruises. You should repost this question in an area where people from Washington state would see it and answer your question better then us flat landers could.

Sure. .There's a ferry that leaves from Seattle. Not sure about the dog, but your car should be okay.

You can still take the ferry, and it will stop in Canada, but as long as you don't get off the boat, you will be fine.

I do not have great knowledge of the ferry system from Washington - Alaska. Like if you would have any issues with your felony or not. However! Check these out. I do know for a fact that there is a ferry in BC that goes up that way . .not so familiar with how Washington's system works =)
