Can I recycle bottles in Canada that I bought in the US?

Specifically the beverage Talking Rain. I have a growing pile of empty bottles and I don't want to just throw them out :( I bought them at Costco in the U.S. but I'm living in Canada right now.

You can absolutely recycle them, but if you paid a deposit, you won't get your deposit back.

I think you mean, "Can I recycle these bottles and recover the deposit on them?"

You can always recycle glass or plastic bottles by dropping them in an appropriate recycling bin. However, the deposit you paid for them is not recoverable in Canada unless it clearly states it on the bottle.

Most bottles bought in the USA have "Return for deposit in NY, NH, ME, and VT" or something like that listed on it. Others may just have "Return for deposit where applicable" on them.

If you can't get the deposit back, I would still suggest recycling them. It is better than just tossing them in the garbage to end up in a landfill.

And if they are plastic, the bottle crushers in some supermarkets may not detect it is a US versus Canada bottle, giving you a deposit back. Try it and see.

i think it depends on the category of glass or plastic your bottle's from

beaglersonthego
Yes the bottles can be recycled but you won't get money for them. Only able to drop them off to be recycled.
