It depend's where you're coming from - if you're travelling from the State's to visit, take I-95 to the Thousand Island International Bridge by vehicle. If you're coming from Toronto, get off the 401 at the Gananoque exit.

Gananoque has terrific Boat Tour's of the Thousand Islands on the St. Lawrence River, but it also stretch's into Kingston, Lake Ontario, where the largest Island is located, Wolfe Island.

They are very beautiful to see and you'd be surprised at how many big Home's are located on a small Island, where many famous people spend their summer's. There's also a stop at one of the Island's where you can get off the Boat and visit Boldt's Castle, now a tourist attraction. Yes, it really is a Castle!

Take the Boat Tour from Gananoque as I said, the one from Kingston is too short. You'll be amazed and delighted at how beautiful it all is

Travel along the 401 from either Toronto or Ottawa
go south at the Gananoque turnoff for about 1.5 Km
All those little bumps of land in the river are the
thousand islands

Kingston has tour boats to the Thousand Islands but there is a lot of traveling before you get to the Islands and that part of the trip is rather boring. Gananoque which is only about 20 min east of Kingston have cruises from there which are much better. There are also trips from Alexandria Bay, N.Y. which stops at Boldt Castle and that is a fantastic excursion. The Canadian tours don't stop as it is on a U.S. Island. Alex Bay is just across the border from the International Bridge. Rockport, Ontario also have great cruises. Rockport is further east past Gananoque. Enjoy.

The closest ferry is in Cape Vincent, NY.

The Thousand Islands are about 200 miles east of Toronto.
The nearest town in Ottawa is Kingston.
