Can anyone tell me about the necessary things to carry when going to Canada in winters?

I am going to Canada for my training in a months' time and winter seems to be quite bitter there this time around. Any suggestions?

If you want to spend a lot of money, get a gortex jacket with polar fleece inside. Get a sturdy, durable hiking boot but not steel-toed as this will transfer the cold straight to your toes.

We try to dress in layers so that you have the opportunity to remove whatever you want if your body starts to heat up. A one layer heavy winter jacket just doesn't do the trick. Better to get a two layer jacket so that it's practical during the spring and fall.

I can wear my winter jacket year round. If I remove the inner polar fleece, I can use the outer part as a heavy windbreaker.

When it comes to boots, there are two schools of thought.
I prefer to buy cheap but comfy because after a few seasons of road salt, they need to be replaced.

Expensive boots require a lot of maintenance so that the salt doesn't ruin them. I don't have time for that.

There are many in Toronto that don't have a proper winter wardrobe as they spend their days in cars, on transit or in their cushy office spaces. Recently we've only been getting bitterly cold weather for maybe two or three weeks.

It depends where you're going. If it's Vancouver, you'll need waterproof outer garments and boots, and an umbrella.
In the rest of Canada you'll need thermal underwear, warm socks and boots, gloves, sweaters, and what they call a toque (pronounced tuke), a knit hat that covers your ears.

A husky lady to keep ya warm a night....

Polar fleece is warm, wool is gonna itch ya, a decent set of warm hiking boots/snow boots. I dunno.. not from Canada, but lived in Alaska for 10 years. Its just you get a good GD winter coat, and shoes, and then the rest you can deal with from point A to point B.

Dont get any cotton long underwear, its pointless. Look in the outdoor stuff. Get the good hi tech gear, because you get what you pay for. And if your gonna try and get a lady or two while your up there, remember cold weather causes shrinkage! lol

Go to Florida for training in winter...and next summer go to Canada...

You did not say where you are going, Canada has very different requirements depending where you going - even in the winter.
If you are going on a training..... did they not give you a kit list?

you will need warm clothes if anywhere else than BC

i say the best to have would be a set of casual warm clothes that are functional, big boots, mits, puffy jacket, hat ect..

and stylish as well, a nice wool coat black or camel coloured....
and a burberry scarf lol
and fancy shoes!

but in any case dress warm!
