To enter Canada as of January 31, 2008 you need photo identification and proof of citizenship (birth certificate). A passport satisfies both of these by including photo ID and proof of citizenship. Look on the site for more examples of photo identification and proof of citizenship.

Actuallu, the requirement now is a photo I.D. and proof of U.S. citizenship...like a birth certificate OR passport. See site below and read top half of page carefully for the current requirements.

THE MAN OF THE HOUR hic hic
you will need a pasport

beenthere
You might be able to cross with just a drivers' license and a birth certificate. I would not take the chance and would have a valid passport.

Imaka
If you are a US citizen, you will need your birth certificate as proof of country of birth, in addition to your driver's licence. Right now it looks like you will need a passport by summer, 2009 - the deadline has been extended.

Yes you sure can get into Canada lol but make sure you have your driver's licence and your birth certificate and few other ID's (in case you're asked) such as your SSC if you're driving, on the other hand you definitely need a valid passport and a government issued photo ID if you're flying
