Some stores-the larger ones Yes.Most other no and the rest yes-but at a poor exchange rate.Best thing to do is guy Cdn. dollars at the bank for the best exchange rate.Shop around at the banks, they vary quite a lot on the exchange rates. A good thing to use is your credit card. |

yes you sure can....
and to that comment that the US dollar is worth a little bit more..is wrong..
the canadian dollar is on par with the american dollar.. meaning they are worth the same.. :) |

I am Canadian and you can absolutely spend US dollars in Canada. The people that say "no" are nuts! All shop owners are happy and used to, taking US dollars. At par at the moment, although this morning, the Canadian dollar was worth slightly more. |

It depends on where you are going to spend it!! the Canadian dollar and the American dollar are about the same so you won't get any extra money.
Most large stores will take American money but small ones won't. just go to a bank and have your money changed over. it only takes a couple minutes and then you don't have to worry. |

Of course you can, but you won't be able to spend the wampom you picked up in the Islands, just cash! |

yup. some stores will give you back the exchange rate and some will just cash it at par but it is under 10 cents on the dollar so thats OK |

just came back from the US and Canada. Short answer is no.
there are some shops that accept the us dollars, but in general no, cos the US dollar is worth a little bit more, in comparison to the dollar. the best thing to do is change the money at the airport. Having said that, the quater dollar coins are similar and i have used american quaters in canada and no one cared (although i was making a loss as the america quater is worth more than the canadian one). If you are in Toronto, the best exchange rate i found was on College street, in a sweet shop called Tuti Fruitis - you cant miss it, it is a very garish looking shop.
enjoy your stay in canada, i loved it there! |
