Most monthly plan U.S. cell phones can be used in Canada. Most prepaid U.S. cell phones cannot be. No idea why. The primary carriers all provide access through various Canadian carriers. However, due to internationl roaming costs, expect to pay $2.50 a minute when using your U.S. cell phone in Canada. Seriously. Best to reserve use for emergency or urgent calls only.

My U.S. cell phone can't make calls in Canada, but can text message and access internet. (Boost)
My Canada cell phone is opposite ... and calls while in U.S. are $2.42 a minute. (Telus)
Previous U.S. phone worked in Canada but charged me $2.60 a minute. (t-mobile)

Because I divide my time between the U.S. and Canada, I ended up getting both a U.S. phone and a Canadian phone, so I have coverage in either country at a cost that won't break my bank account.

Sure can, but it will cost you an arm and a leg in long distance charges.

Cell phones were recently decriminalized in Canada, so you should be fine. They aren't totally legal but if you don't overly flaunt it, you should be ok.

I'm from Canada and my cell phone works in the US so I don't see why it wouldn't work the other way around. You could check your cell phone brands web site for more information.

if you have tri band on your cell phone if not then you can't

Probably, I'm from Montreal and I was able to use it when I went to Chicago

when in windsor, make your calls on riverside drive between janette ave and the ambassador bridge. if you do this you will hit off the southfield mi tower. your roaming charges will be alot less for you.

You should be able to. It will cost you a LOT in roaming fees though. Check with your cell phone company for a list of roaming numbers. They are a pain to use, but will save you a LOT of money.

FeatherHead
Why not? We have a little technology up here, eh?

If your provider works off of local phone towers (ie Bell) then you shouldn't have a problem. You will pay a lot for it though, just so you know.

Jocelyn
