Can my 15-year old daughter cross Canadian border without a parent or passport with her 20 year old sister? |
In less that 1 week my 20 year old daughter is going to Canadian side of Niagara Falls and my 15 year old wishes to accompany her. What does she need to prevent long delays at the border? No passport available for 15 year old. 20 year old has one. thanks. |

Depends on HOW and WHEN they are traveling
Traveling by plane: Your "both" 20 and 15 year old daughters will need a valid passport (regardless of their age)
Traveling by land and / or sea: a valid passport is not required before June 2009 They'll need a government issued photo id and original birth certificate.
and since your 15 year old won't be traveling with you and her daddy then she must have a NOTARIZED CONSENT form signed by you and your hubby. |

Sorry, but your 15-year old daughter can't piggyback on her sister. She needs independent documentation - and 15-year olds CAN get passports. Is your 20-year old driving or flying? If she is driving, your 15-year old may be able to accompany her if she has her birth certificate, some picture ID and a notarized letter of permission, signed by both you and your husband, authorizing her to accompany her sister.
If the older girl if flying, there's no way the 15-year old can go because all airline passengers need passports. |

I took my daughter through the border without my husband and hit a bit of a snag. Since my daughter is a minor, they wanted a note, signed by my husband, giving me permission to take my daughter out of the country. I don't know if they would require this in her case, but it's probably a case of better safe than sorry. It just needs to be a note, signed by her parents, stating that your other daughter has permission to take her into Canada.
Other than that, if she is coming before June, she will need her birth certificate and photo ID of some sort. Does she have a learner's license with her picture on it? That would be sufficient. If she's coming after June 1, she will need a valid passport. |

You got a bunch of mis-information. Until June 1, passports are not needed to cross the border by LAND. Adults need EITHER a passport or a photo I.D. and their passport. Minors need only their birth certificate. Minors are not required to have a photo I.D. Even after June 1, minors under 16, may cross with just their birth certificates. YOU will need to provide a letter of permission for the 20 yr old to take her sister out of the country. Must be signed by both parents and notarized. See site below. See 2nd site and read carefully to see the passport/I.D. law for border crossing. |

The simple answer is yes, your older daughter can bring your younger daughter into Canada without a passport. A passport is not required until June 1, 2009, prior to that your younger daughter will require an official birth certificate. If she has some type of photo ID it would also be a good idea to bring that as well.
In addition to her birth certificate she will require a signed letter, preferably notarized, authorizing your older daughter to ring her into Canada. The letter should have the following information:
Parents name, address, and contact number(s)
Name of person bringing your daughter
Dates the letter is valid for (can be longer than just the one trip) and, if possible, the destination in general and purpose of the trip.
Your oldest will have to present this letter when crossing both ways and remember that immigration may contact you so make sure the numbers on the letter correspond to one where they can reach you. |

Anyone of any age can get a passport. However, it's not needed until after June 1st. She needs her birth certificate and a photo ID. Also, you need to write and sign a note for her saying you give permission for her sister to take her out of the country. The border guards require this to make sure she is not being kidnapped. If she has all those things, it should be fine. |

I think the laws are now that everyone must have a passport/passcard to cross any borders. I would just get her a passcard (much cheaper). But i don't think it would be ready in a week. But if it's the cadadian side of the falls, then why would there be any border crossing? I've never been myself and don't know where it is in comparrison to Laval! |

She will need a passport and written permission from her parent/guardian.
Used to not have to have a passport but the US decided to make everyone from Canada have to have one to enter their country so. |

Oh Mother Goose. :0) Take her to the Drivers license office and get her a picture ID. As long as her and her sisters last name are the same and the ID's of both parties are official government issued ID's there will be no reason for alarm from the border patrol. |

Not sure about that one.School ID with picture? Birth certificate. Certainly passport is always best and when you have an emergency of sorts, you can get one the same day (for a supplement) if you go tot the passport office with all your documents ready. |

My roomie who is Canadian says that without a pass port she can't get into the U.S, so I'm assuming it would be the same if a U.S citizen wanted to get into Canada.
Maybe she could attempt it with a birth certificate, driver's license etc. Worst that can happen is they get turned away. |
