Can my Birth certificate still be used when traveling if it's sealed in plastic or tape? |
My expired passport won't arrive in time, and my birth certificate is falling apart. If I seal it up in clear tape, will it still be valid at the Canadian border |

NO! As the others mentioned, there are detailed security features on a birth certificate that is not originally laminated. If you laminate/tape etc it will NOT be accepted. It does say on the back void if laminated.
If you were born in Ontario, you can order your birth certificate online and they guarantee it will be to you within 15 business days. (dont do it by mail or it will take weeks) You can pay to have it faster in some cases. |

Absolutely not! I believe it even says on the certificate that it's void if laminated...if it's laminated/selaed then they can't clearly define all the security features. I keep mine in an envelope and that does the trick (you could always tape around the envelope to add extra protection). |

I was one of the lucky years that the government laminated my birth certificate. You can not tape or laminate your paper birth certificate. I wonder, how long does it take to get a new one (birth certificate), maybe that is something to look into. |

If it is laminated it will be void. but that being said there are trading card sleeves which you can slide it into which will protect it, and allow them to take it out if they need to examine it further. |

how about putting it in one of the clear plastic sleeves - called page protectors or sheet protectors?
get them at some school supply places or any business supply store.
so it is protected (like the other person said) as if it were in an envelope; it can be read through the clear sleeve, but it can be easily taken out by people who need to check it carefully. |

Do not laminate your birth certificate.. the border will not be happy with you.. and may not let you cross (esp if you get someone mean). Insted I'd say put your birth certificate in a baseball card holder... it protects it great and the border can take it out if they want. |

But with the recent changes you will not be allowed acrossed the border at any point on land without 2 pieces of picture ID, a driver licence, health card or passport, they are no longer accepting birth certificate, old OHIP card with the red stripe and any other non or government id without a picture on it, I tried to use my MetroPass and the guy laughed at me??? |
