Can you tell the difference between a typical American and a typical Canadian?

i think it's very hard to distinguish the two. except for some subtle differences in accent
Additional Details
yea i guess the one's living close to the borders are more identical and the farther you get from the borders the more different in accent.

i don't think so eh. sure the accents vary eh. but generally we're all pretty similar eh. no, canadians don't like being called americans eh. but i bet americans don't like being called canadian either eh.

no we do not all end every sentence with "eh." i can't remember the last time i actually said that word in a sentence, other than to make fun of a silly stereotype.

The easiest way to determine if a person is a Canadian is to accuse him of being an AMERICAN.

There can be huge differences in accent, and in commonly used vocabulary. Superficially there may be very few differences, but I think there are usually huge differences in philosophy and approach to life, which you only understand when you get to know a person well. For example, Canadians tend to be more concerned about and involved with recycling. There is certainly less litter in Canada than in most places I have visited in the US, and my friends in the US tell me the same thing - they find that Canada is very clean, so that has to be a difference. Our approach to health care is significantly different, which does affect who we are. So while the differences may not be obvious, I think they are considerable.

Canadian girls aren't as fat. We definitely have some fatties too but seriously!
Also, the first guy said it best...accuse us of being American. Right on!

Mwa Ha Ha!
It really depends where you go. You will definitely be able to tell the difference between some one from Newfoundland and someone from Texas. I guess the words that they use are really different as well. A lot of Americans I know say 'soda' for pop, 'candy bars' for chocolate bars... There are quite a few differences. But i guess we're all people so it doesn't matter too much. Funny how we Canadians don't like being called American. Mind you, I don't think anyone likes being called a nationality they're not.

Is there any such thing as a "typical" Canadian or American? How similar is a Somali Canadian to a Mexican American?

just a dude...

Ask the person,"What's the capital of Canada?" A Canadian will say "Ottawa" and an American will say "Toronto".

nbr660
You are correct, the differences between the two are very small.
