Can you use Canadian debit card in U.S?
I was wondering if you could use a CIBC bank card in the u.s Will it work to make purchases in stores? That would be very helpful. Will there be any machines to withdraw money from? Thanks!
Most stores will accept it - especially the major chains. The debit card system in the US accepts cards linked tot he Plus system more often than cards on the Interac system - check with your bank. Same goes for ATM withdrawals. Bank of America and Key Bank tend to take more Canadian based cards than the other major US banks.

Call the customer service number on your card and ask them. they can tell you for sure, and you can tell them the dates you will be in the U.S. so they won't think your card was stolen and block it.

Yes, you will get hit with additional surcharges, but it will not be a problem

I was in Los Angeles recently, and had called ahead to be sure they take interac and they said yes....
Until I got there. Their interac cards have a Visa or MC logo on it, ours do not. They said without that logo, they cannot accept it. I ran into that problem all over the place, so I just went to bank machines and got cash, much easier than arguing about it in every store.
I know for sure that hotels won't accept your cibc card.

yes
Same network.
Just like the internet works the same here as it dose there.

As long as the ATM or Intarac machine matches one of the little logos on the back of your bank card it will work.

I was in this past summer San Diego and they don't have INTERAC there. INTERAC is Canadian. So I didn't bother asking the stores.
I just went to a ATM, and if they have the PLUS logo then your good.

yes and no some business will not accept any foreign cards.checks, so be prepare to have cash.
and the surcharge may be higher also when using .
Most stores along the border in Michigan do take Canadian money. ASK before you are rung up. (most take at par)
The best bet is to use your banks website there should be some information on what charges or where you can withdraw form.
