YES....
just like you can use a canadian drivers licence to drive into and around usa... I am canadian and we drive across the border all the time and we use our canadian drivers licences to drive into usa and same with my U.S relatives they drive across the border into canada with their U.S.A drivers licence.
you will also need your birth certificate to cross the border sometimes they don't ask and just let you get thru with just you drivers licence but sometimes you get a cranky guy and they want both forms of I.D...
P.S you do NOT need a passport for LAND crossings until next year (2008) you only need a passport for air travel. |

If you are planning on a short stay (less than 6 months), you can use your US-issued licence to drive legally anywhere in Canada. You may need extra insurance (check with your insurance company).
If you plan a longer stay, you will probably have to trade in your US licence for one from the province in which you're staying. This is in part due to the 'proof of presence' (that's not the right term, but I can't remember what it's called at the moment!) requirement, that says if you're in the country for more than 182 days, you have tighter ties to the country you've spent more time in ... and therefore will be taxed AT THAT COUNTRY'S TAX RATE for the period you reside there...
As of January 2007, you require a passport to re-enter the US if you are traveling by air. This is for proof of citizenship purposes, although it doubles as a a photo ID.
As of January 2008, you will require a passport regardless of the means of transportation. At that time, it will be the ONLY accepted form for proving citizenship (birth certificates will no longer count). |

Tell your insurance company you need a Proof of Liability card for travel in Canada. No Charge. I do go without it but haven't been in any scrapes so don't really know if it's absolutely necessary. Pick a quiet border crossing, less hassle than the four lane highway crossings. Have a nice trip. |

Yes you can; but do it now if you want too. After Jan 2008 you will need a passport to get back home. |

Yes you can, just make sure you let your insurance co. know, they give you an ID card for driving in Canada, for me it did not cost any extra. |

You can use your drivers license to drive in Canada and also into Canada, but you still need a passport to go over the border. |

yes, but beware of the r.c.m.p. they'll be watching you! lol
just obey the speed limit and traffic signs and you'll do fine.
please don't forget your passport, you will definitely need it to get back into the u.s. the border guards are becoming ever more vigilant about this and who can blame them!
if you are leaving canada via a different border crossing than where you entered canada, be prepared to answer queries as to where you have been, and what you have been up to. it never hurts to keep receipts showing where you have stayed overnight, that type of thing.
canadians are great people, very friendly and helpful....or at least they have been on any trips we have made there!
have a good trip and stay safe! |

Yes. As long as you're not staying there permanently, you should be fine with your US drivers license.
However, you won't be able to use that as identification to enter into Canada after this year. I woud suggest you bring your passport for entry into Canada as you'll definately need it to come back into the US. |

Not anymore. A new law started at the first of the year that says you need to have a passport to travel anywhere outside the U.S.
Some states; like Washington; have made their driving licences into mini passports, but this is in the trail stage. |
