You are mistaking Canada with the other large country on the continent of North America.

They are run by a party called the Republicans who control the White House, the Senate, the Congress and the Supreme Court. This situation has existed for this entire century. Furthermore, they no longer hold free elections as widespread gerrymandering of electoral districts and dirty tricks like voter disenfranchisement, vote machine rigging, polling station understaffing and underequipping have helped to rig the last two federal elections in favour of the Republicans. The Republicans have held the White House for 20 of the last 28 years.

They also outlaw certain parties that the Republicans find offensive (i.e. the Communists).

BTW: damndirtyape21 - You've got your metaphor all screwed up. America is actually Canada's basement. It keeps getting flooded (Katrina, Rita) and we have to send clean-up crews to help you with the mess. It's a mess and we keep meaning to get down there and sort it out but, y'know, it's summer and we'd rather be outside enjoying the weather and cooking on the barbecue. Then comes winter and we'd rather be playing or watching hockey.

SONIC: Who do you think you are? If you want to kiss America's backside go right ahead. I'd rather not. You don't like it, don't read it.

Canada is a Democracy - Canada recently had a change of Government from the Liberals to the Conservatives.

Your an idiot. We have several parties. There are 2 parties that have been the majority. And we go back and forth between the two quite often. Unlike the US that has only 2 very right wing parties on of whom actually ruled with out a majority vote. Yes, enjoy your 'democracy'.

You know it doesn't bother me that much when I see people like you because I know that you will never pollute Canada's gene pool and you will contribute to the downfall of the tyrannical regime that is the USA.

Grendle
Look up the definition of "dictatorship", you hoser.

lancerbabe29
We are not a dictatorship we are a democracy . We recently just changed governments from liberal to the P.Cs so maybe you should check your facts before spouting off!

Church Music Girl
Uh, no. In fact, using the current system of government, the three "non-ruling" parties can place a "No Confidence" vote that says they do not believe the current government can lead the country. This immediately brings things to a grinding halt and forces a new election. Do some research - this happened just this past January. Out with the Martin Government (Liberals) in with the Harper Government (Conservatives).

At least our country doesnt have a pirate for a leader.....wait you are intelligent enough to know who is in office in the States right?

I wouldn't be surprised if you didnt, Im sure many of you cant even spell the name of the State you live in....hahaha inbreeding will do that to you!

WaterfallOfDestiny
No, leadership has constantly alternated between the Liberal and Conservative parties. However, your deplorable lack of political knowledge has caused you to assume that Canada is a dictatorship, when the United States has only 2 parties to choose from. On the other hand, Canada has more than 14 political parties competing for roles in the federal government.

steph
actually we just switched leaderships not to long ago.. january i guess it was... :)

Actually for many Yanks who come up here Canada is a party that rules:
-lower drinking age;
-more lax laws on marijuana;
-more tolerant society; and
-lower crime.

Maybe the "dictatorship" works.

savagescorpio
We are a pseudo-democracy, thanks.

We have actually had both the Liberals & the Conservatives in power over the past decade.

Get your facts straight, eh.

old lady
Nope. If you're living in Canada, you haven't been reading the papers. We've changed from the Liberal to a Conservative government, and there are four major parties, Lib, Cons, NDP and Bloc Quebec, along with half a dozen smaller parties, including Green Party, Christian Heritage Party and others.

Way to go Rory McRandall and all other proud AND smart Canadians answering this question!
Your answers are so good, that I have nothing to add!

Good call on the SONIC answer! This user tends to be a Canadian or an American, depending on the issue, in the attempt to avoid the sharp wit and sharp tongues of a Canadian backlash!

I refer to the following (read the comments, too):

NOTE: Many of the hate Canada messages have been deleted, so I only have a limited supply of hypocrisy and cowardice!

Please ignore the "Warning" about me on this user's page.... but, I am sure you can come to the logical conclusion as to why it is there! EDIT: I guess it's been deleted...of course!

Kudos to any Americans who see this question as the rubbish it is!

Rory McRandall:

How dare you. HOW DARE YOU make those comments about The United States of America.

The United States of America is one of the greatest countries in the world. You have obviously NEVER travelled there, because you most likely lack the education to earn enough money to purchase a car to cross the border!

Have you realised, that this is the UNITED STATES yahoo answers? If you only want to answer Canadian questions than turn on 'canadian questions only'. I have US questions turned on only, but unfortunatly I still have to witness answers by people like you who lack an education.

65% of everything you eat, drink, and use . . . is from the United States. 90% of all television shows you watch are from the United States . . . unless you make a stupid effort to only use Canadian products only which is basically impossible . . . it's impossible anywere to use goods only from one certain country.

By the way . . . im a Canadian citizen who lives in Toronto.

Canada is like America's attic....we know it's up there but who cares?
