Use a credit card instead of cash. This way you will get the correct monetary exchange through your bank. I've been to Canada many times and this is the best and easiest way.

In Canada everywhere takes debit card so thats a good way to go, same with Mastercard and Visa. You didn't say how long you were going to Canada for so that doesn't really help answer you but, in Canada right now the exchange rate is about equal so $1usa=$1canada, so just decide how much you would need to go somewhere else in the usa and it is basically the same. Except, if you are buying anything almost everything is more expensive in Canada so that is another thing to consider.

Canada is just like USA, except prices are higher than USA excluding medication. Being credit and debt cards being safe and easy to use. As you know more enjoyment needs more money.

Middle class vacation? $150 a day.

Student vacation? $100 a day.

Backpackers bare bones? $75 a day.

Credit cards are gleefully accepted everywhere so spend, spend, spend!

You don't say how many of you are going or how many days, so the best guessamation I could make is about $100 per person per day. That's not including accommodation or travel expenses.

As others have mentioned, you may not want to bring cash with you unless you do NOT have a credit card or ATM card.

Simply use a credit card to pay for hotel, car rental, or restaurant bills. Use cash for the taxi ride, bus fare, or smaller bills like a soda or snacks at the local corner store. You can get cash locally using any ATM machine and your debit card if it is part of the Interac or Plus network...just look on the back of your card.

And although someone mentioned that "almost everything you buy in Canada is more expensive", I think it would have been better for them to know where you are coming from before making that statement.

If you are coming from the USA, then yes, many items are more expensive, such as books, cars, gas, music and DVD movies. On the other hand, clothing, food, and certain other things are comparable.

By the way, whatever you spend here, make sure you keep your receipts because you can make a request at the border to reclaim some of the taxes you paid. I believe that the GST taxes are refundable to tourists if they just fill out the right forms.
