I think it's unfair asking this question on a Canadian section of Yahoo Answer's, so I will post from a European point of view!
Both countries are great, they both have good and bad things.
I like the fact that Canada is so huge, but it's population is under 35million (the UK is a tiny island compared to Canada, but has 65million people).
I love the fact that the U.S has such a huge climate difference - you can be in a desert over 40c, to absolutely freezing snow, or moutains, etc. It is pretty amazing, you have so many different climates in one country.
I like canada's government more, they seem to generally stay out of trouble, which is more than I can say for bush and his buddies.
I can't and won;t compare American people with Canadian peope because that would be unfair, every country has bad guys and good guys, with different cultures, etc.
Anyway, that's my view. |

Alright

It seems like Canadian people are more friendly. |

@ joe s.. you are wrong, americans choose to live in Canada more and more every year (especially since George Bush has become your president). |

Both can be pretty nice.
There's far more tension in the US, though, thanks to September 11 and Katrina. |

Here's an interesting statistic for you to ponder.
At the moment of this posting, a full 25 percent of the answerers here are so afraid of what they DO NOT KNOW about Canada, that they have to invent misleading information about our country to make the USA look good by comparison.
To that 25 percent - there's no need to fear what you don't understand. Go read a book. |

For joe s
10,942 americans immigrated to Canada to work in 2006. Almost doubled the numbers in 2000. |

I guess I can answer that with a question.
Why is it that I see Canadians moving to the US to work, but I don't see Americans moving to Canada to work?
TO BABY BLUE
21,878 Canadian emigrated to the US in 2005.
If you were to take your figure and make it comparable based on population it would be 1191.
That would mean for every American emigrating to Canada there would be 18 Canadians coming to America.
Quoting stats suck doesn't it. |

Having live in both nations you are wrong. Food is cheaper in the US do not give me bs about the exchange you pay more in Cnd due to the union sranglehold on wages. Cars cost 15 thousand or more higher in Ontario, clohtes are 30 per more expensive in Ont than in the US, and you all are dumb enough to pay for it think it is ok.
Your dr are rude and condesecening who cares if it is lower cost if they do not treat the elderly or disabled.
Canada pop is 32 mil vs the us 300 mil we are always told how much nicer and happier americans are vs canadians. you have to fight more for what americand do not have to fight for in the usa. we have a more open form of govt than yours. your govt controls you not in the usa.
cnd is cheap when the tsunami hit the people dontated a measely 2 mil until the govt matched donations then when the matching stop so did the donations. you think the govt has to take care of you. the us people donated 300 bil this past year to charity not incuding the 26 billion the us govt gave away.
we do more medical research and save the world. canada waits until we ask them and rarely send troops to help out and when they do it is minisucle worthless amts.
canada is quite selfish. |

Unlike Canada, America is an independent country. Canada is still part of the so-called British Commonwealth with the Queen of England as its head of state. In fact, that makes Canada nothing more than a British colonial territory.
At least Americans are not subjects of the British queen. LOL! |
