Hello. As a 6th-generation descendent of Hamiltonians, please let me say, (and forgive me for not actually answering your question,) that Hamilton, Ontario is NOT the cesspool sugar_piggie says it is. I don't know where she gets her news, but it probably gets filed under the word "tabloid". Hamilton is an old and proud city. It's a blue-collar city with more than enough history to lend it depth and personality. Hamilton has crime like EVERY OTHER CITY. The difference is that some places, like Vancouver, don't report theirs because it would upset the populace. Expecting a medium or large city to have no crime is a wonderful but slightly unrealistic ideal. Overall, Hamiltonians are friendly and straighforward, which can me mistaken for rudeness by the overly-sensitive.
Hamilton has drugs and hookers, I'm sure, but I grew up there and I've never even seen any. Of course, again, big-city problems tend to be the same, so don't expect anywhere you move to to be perfect. All in all, Hamilton is beautiful and full of lush natural places and a long history. It's not for everyone, but if you're travelling here, please stop by and check us out.

Canada's diverse in it multiculturalism. Toronto's a big place, Montreal would almost require you learning French as a second language. Vancouver is almost as diverse as Toronto, but has Seattle-like weather.
Check out the Immigration (INS) pages for info on travel to Canada and from there, you can visit Canada's site on emigrating to their fine country. |

Canada is a nice place to live. Id say Ontario is the best, as this is where most things take place ie. concerts, events etc. whereas most other provinces (especially the eastern ones) are more like, "booney".
Dont listen to the one person above me - Hamilton is dirty and gross and very overpopulated. People get shot and stabbed there every single night. Hookers and drug addicts everywhere. Renting or buying a house is quite cheap, but the houses are old and dirty and very rundown.
One other person mentioned Burlington - its very nice there. Its getting a bit expensive to live there though. Oakville is beside it, and its very expensive, but a very nice place to live. Both Burlington and Oakville are on Lake Ontario, which is nice! They are about 45 minutes from Toronto.
Some other nice places in Ontario are Guelph, Milton, Niagara Falls, St Catharines, Cobourg...
Toronto might be ok, but you really have to be the type of person for it. Its very busy and multicultural but its got some sketchy areas with scary people. Its true "city life". Housing is fairly reasonable there. Also on the water.
Ive also heard British Columbia is a nice place to live, but im not sure what its like there or the cost of housing. I do know it has pretty mountains and lots of movies are filmed there lol.
Alberta is desperate to hire people right now. Even people at McDonalds make about $17/hour. However, the cost of housing is through the roof. But, i do know a lot of people who have moved from Ontario to Edmonton to work in hotels and live in rooms for cheap, and they love it.
So if you are considering moving to Canada, id say either Ontario, British Columbia or Alberta. The rest would be if you want more of a country, old fashioned life, with no real city ammenities around, which you said you dont want.
But i definitely reccomend taking a vacation here first, before moving! Thats a big step you could end up regretting! |

well you might like toronto. The weather is the same..and you can drive down to Niagra falls and gamble in about an hour. They have a Big casino there.
if you want to move out west, Calgary is nice. There are several casinos in Calgary, plus the Canadian Rocky Mountains right on the doorstep. |
|

Hello.

i know that this doesnt really answer your question..
but move to CALGARY
you have the beautiful view of the Rocky Moutains here, =] |

Dont listen to "Lee". The government does NOT listen to the general public. We are taxed to death in Ontario! Dont come to Ontario! Go to Alberta! Ontario is the higest tax province in Canada. You will have to work like a dog to just break even. Life is very expensive here. Accomidation, food, clothing, auto insurance are all very very expensive. Stay in the US, its much cheaper! |

Harry K, maybe it isn't really the free healthcare she's moving for. Maybe it's the nicer people OR the chance to make all the snow angels she can. At any rate, welcome " just a girl". Whatever city you decide to move to, enjoy visiting the rest of the country later. There's lot to see and do and we actually do have beautiful weather throughout the summer (well, that is if you don't count the mosquitos) but you likely have those, too. |

Come to Canada...there are parts that are not always cold, our money is worth more than yours and our government listens to us! Contact an immigration office and see what you need! |

Have you ever been to Canada? It's kind of funny that you would move to a country just because it has socialized medicine. It's easier to get a job with medical coverage than immigrate to another country. |
