Canada a good place for a mission?

hey! well i'm going to canada or most likely going to canada for a mission trip. to be more specific i'm going to vancouver
my mom said i can go even though it'll cost a lot but she knows i'll learn a lot she's still not really satisfied cus she's been to canada and says that it's pretty rich and has many christians and is beautiful and stuff i looked up vancouver and i have to agree
i wanna go to a place like africa or some place with lots of homeless children and stuff but i'm not sure about vancouver
so i was just wondering, if you live in vancouver Canada or something or know about it, why is it a good place for a mission to help children or people?
if you know please answer and thanks! :)

Well my dear, that's great that you want to help out, but as others have said, the only real place that you might help out would be in the "east end" (of Vancouver)...and I'm guessing that you are somewhat young, so I don't think that that would be a very productive/safe place for you to volunteer.

The people (to make a HUGE generalization) in the downtown east side of Van need A LOT of help-BUT, they need a lot of professional help. And although the gov't does NOT provide enough help, I don't think that it would be a very safe place for a young person to be.

I have volunteered in Mexico quite a few times with children and have had an AMAZZZZING time!!!!!!!

I volunteered with an organization called Children of the Dump in Mazatlan, and this past February I volunteered with the RISE Orphanage, and Children of the Dump-both in Puerto Vallarta. Both of these organizations are somewhat connected to a church, so mission trips are happily accepted!

Not to be rude, but I think that many Canadians would find it offensive to be offered "missionary help" because we have soooo many different religions here, and many who are not religious, that missionary work may not be appreciated (thus you could do WAY more work/be more helpful in countries like Mexico, Africa ect)....

If you are interested in volunteering in Canada, and want to stay in the Vancouver area, then I would suggest checking out: http://www.govolunteer.ca/cgi-bin/page.cgi?_id=16 However, this is not missionary work, it's volunteer work.

Okay, I just thought of one missionary job in Vancouver-providing food, shelter ect for people living on the streets. Many church groups provide these services. Here is a website with a long list of church organizations in Vancouver: http://www2.vcn.bc.ca/directory2?catid=22&subCatID=90

Good luck! Feel free to send me an email if you would like more info on the organizations in Mexico!!

Mission for what?
To convert people? To help the poor? To build schools?

Canada doesn't need you to come here and convert people, we have our own cultures and religions already.
Sure, there are poor people in Vancouver, and homeless people, but no more so than the average US city.
I would think that you would be of more use helping feed starving children in Africa than trying to convert Canadians.

Z
As soon as you raise the issue of religion, people here become squeamish...and rightly so.

We consider religion to be a private matter and will not take kindly to having someone come here to try and tell us how to live our lives. We don't need anyone to try and "convert" us. To think you can do so is to believe that we don't know what's good for ourselves.

By all means, come and visit Canada but keep any religiosity out of things.

I dont think Vacnouver is a great place for a mission...i mean sure there are alot of homeless people but again no more so than any other city, and there are enough programs for them, and lots of people doing lots about it.

One thing you should be aware of if you're visiting Canada on a religious mission: Canadians tend to treat religion as a personal, semi-private matter, and are not the easiest people to convert.
