Hi I am from beautiful Bobcaygeon Ontario. The near north about 1.5 hrs. north of Toronto. The Kawartha Lakes lots of clean rivers lakes and forests. Sure, its fairly cold @ -14 degrees, with a hint of snow in the wind, but the stars are twinkling and look so much closer than summer. The Milky Way stretches from tree-line to treeline, and it is hard to be self important with the vastness of the universe laid out above you. Nature is ever close, it may take a ten minute walk out of town to hear the howl of a wolf, but it is always somewhere nearby. Every week a black bear is sighted tearing up someone's garbage, and regularily dogs are yapping at a raccoon, a skunk, or just their own shadows. Chainsaws are buzzing or someone is cutting a hole for ice fishing, or getting their boats ready for next year. I have travelled this great big country from coast to coast and living with nature, both good and bad is always right there. The ability to survive, and the ability to enjoy her is always present. A land of beauty and bounty, where a personal can live with their own knowledge that it can't be controlled completely. Hard, sometimes, but ever comforting, a trueMother of us all.

its great! even for me, i dont really like the wilderness, but camping in the (canadian) north. its awsome!

Time to live
I have worked alot in the forests of Northern BC and Alberta, and it is inspiring. I have been meters away from Black Bears and scared to death. The Northern Lights are awesome and the sky is so clear you can see forever. Wildlife is abundant, but I have to say if you want to see it you better go soon. We are definitely taking advantage of the wealth of resources we have and the north is getting developed quickly.

I am a Canadian whose field job sends me all over the country, including to the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. There is less boreal forest in the high North than TV leads you to expect – most of the vegetation is tundra. I like to say that when the flowers aren’t blooming, the tundra isn’t very photogenic because even a digital camera cannot capture the environmental diversity of the landscape - but it’s gorgeous in person. Lots of Caribou up North and a lot of the wildlife don’t recognize people as a threat: I’ve found myself surrounded by a herd of Caribou, had a grizzly bear just staring at my group of colleges, many polar bear encounters in Churchill (the “polar bear capital of the world”), have domesticated a wild fox, and have even seen a cougar (which is a rare site to see in Manitoba, where I’m from).

If you think Canada is “dreamy” you should also check out New Zealand, if you’re looking to travel...I live there for a while and loved that I didn't have to carry bear spray to treck in the wilderness!
