Most of what you need you can find at the link below. It lists what substances are restricted for import to Canada and what products you can bring in and in what quantities.

You can only bring processed and packaged foods. Nothing that was not sealed at a factory and certainly no fresh or home made foods.

As for the need to bring in foods, you can stop at a Canadian supermarket and get pretty well everything you can get in the USA and the prices will not be all that different once you figure in the exchange rates.

And Canada also has tons of "health" food stores and Organic grocers.

If you are driving, you can bring canned goods but no fresh fruit or vegetables, or meat. Processed meat is okay, but not raw meat.
But why are you bringing food? There are oodles of grocery stores in Canada, they sell pretty much the same brands as you find in the US - and sometimes it's fun to try something a little different. There is also a dollar limit as to what you can bring. Contact the Canadian Immigration service (google them up) to get the latest information.
Enjoy your trip

Don't bring anything exotic, like tiger penis soup. I'm not sure why you think you need to bring any food to Canada. There are restaurants and grocery stores you know.
