Canada to heart? |
I really really love Canada. I'm currently an American living in California. I know all about this place. I know all the in's and out's of Cali. But I want something more. I like the idea of Canada. I've been there, I've seen it. I've fallen in love with it. But why is it there are Canadians there who don't want more people to move there? It's sad to think that as much as I'd love to move to Canada, there will be a number of folks there who don't want me there.
I know a good thing when I see one. To list everything I like about the place I'd have to write a novel about it.
Some folks keep saying I should just stay where I'm at. The economy is stronger in Cali then anywhere else in the Americas and yada yada yada. Cali has diversity, Cali has the best weather. etc. yeah, I can see what they mean. But I like the idea of living in a Country where people don't just say there is equality; there actually is... |

To dispel the myths about not wanting new immigrants, the government policy is actually to encourage immigration to Canada to the tune of 1% of the population every year - currently somewhere in the area of 300,000. Of course they are looking for people with particular job skill sets etc but Canada is a country of immigrants. If you are willing to move to an area that is not saturated with newcomers that may increase your chances of getting accepted - avoid the three big cities Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver as that is where the bulk of new immigrants head.
The country is incredibly diverse and every region has it's own appeal. Having lived abroad for many years, ( USA, Latin America, Europe, Caribbean, Middle East) I truly appreciate what a gem we have in Canada despite some of the problems that any society faces.
There is more than enough room and resources for many more to share so "Welcome"! |

It can't help but make a Canadian proud to see someone from another country love ours. I doubt there are many people who are bothered by someone moving here, except perhaps the cities with the densest population. In my biased opinion, the Maritimes have the friendliest people. |

Obviously Robert must be an american as he knows nothing about Canada and its people. I have never heard of Canadian people not wanting people to come here, unless you are an illegal who would just like to jump on the welfare system........by passing the law that makes Gay couples able to marry, claim benefits, and adopt, we have nearly doubled the amount of people trying to become Canadian citizens, and we welcome that. More people = more contributions to our society which is better for all. You are quite welcome to come here. |

I've lived in Canada all my life and I actually can't imagine living in another country permenantly, I love it here! I'm actually really surprised that you think Canadians don't want other people to move here.. I don't think thats true at all. If you love this country so much and would move here legally, there's really no problem. It's a different story if dozens of people are trying to immigrate illegally, but it's even worse in the US for that kind of situation. Every week on the news you hear of another community fighting to keep an immigrant who really means something to the community from being deported or whatever. The weather and everything is definetly a lot different than Cali, but if you're looking for a change and really love Canada I don't see what you wouldn't move here. Also, all the Canadian provinces are very different and unique so picking one would be really interesting! Good Luck. : ) |

I think most Canadians welcome immigrants, I know I don't have a problem. I am disappointed in fact that it seems immigration these days looks more at a persons cheque book than their worthiness. JMO.
I've got 2 bro's and their families living in the States as that was where they got jobs (Univ. Profs) so how could I deny someone wanting to live here. |

I think far more people would welcome you than be opposed to you being here. Canada is a great country. |

Equality in Canada, not a chance. The system is run the same as anywhere else it's who you know and how much money you have that's important. The main difference between the States and Canada is the population is more passive, everyone is to filled with fear to squeak the slave mentality is well installed. |
