Rascist..
You don't hear (or experience) alot of that in Canada period.
But French is a language, and French people in Quebec are just trying to preserve their culture and heritage.
Most of us Ontarians try to speak French, anyways, we learn it in school, and generally we're genuinely polite to each other.
I love my Quebec neighbours!
From my experiences, living in Ottawa 40 years and previously being married to a Quebec French man, they treated me wonderfully. I learned how to cook the best foods, and nobody looked down on me. I could understand French, and speak it conversationally, so I understood.
They would go out of their way to teach me about french culture, and help me with the language.
They know I didn't take away anything from them, nor did my peers or my parents, so they don't hold grudges towards us.
As another answerer stated, I've experienced more 'prejudice' - being an Ottawan and going out west! Like the Prime Minister must know me or something, and give me gifts. hahaha.
(Just dispelling a common myth about people who live in Ottawa). |

You are confusing RACE with language.
A race is a group that all look alike.
Chinese are a race. ****** are a race.
Quebecers are NOT a race, they are a lingusitic group, who speak French. A person can be a ***** and also speak French, as they do in Hati.
It is a near impossibility for a person to be a racist towards people who are from THEIR OWN race. To be prejudiced against similar looking people is not racism, it is simply ignorant behaviour.
Quebec is a island of Fench speakers, about 7 million of them, surrounded by 330 million English speakers ( Canada and the USA ) and they feel threatend by that fact. They have enacted laws with in their Province, to protect their language and culture from being erroded.
In the total population of Canada ( 33 million people ) about 22 percent speak French as their first language. Most of therm are found in Quebec and New Brunswick.

As an outsider of that province I see it that way. The other non French minorities in Quebec seem to be viewed by many French Speaking people as those likely to vote differently than them. Ironically, that these other minorities have a different culture thus diluting the power of the Quebec Identity, they seem willing to be oppressive towards them.
That my opinion, as a visible minority person born and raised in BC. |

No,it`s about language not race. You have to look at there history to understand.Quebec was a French colony that was captured by the British. They were told they could keep there language and culture as terms of surrender. |

well first of all do we want to keep some of our french culture? Yes, french heritage in Canada is more respected now than before.
Also is being from quebec mean your a racist, no. First of all, a common belived myth is that everyone from Quebec is french. No. you see many parts of quebec were inhabited by britsih settlers originally, plus there are many irish in Québec too because many french families adopted irish orphans whose parents died from ships fever during the atlantic crossing. Also conflicts between british and french people in Canada are becoming less and less frequent, people are really just tired of hearing about it!! Also many people in Quebec don't want to seperate!!
And is quebec a race? No, its a province of canada. Are french canadians a race? No, we are a nationality, French canadian.
Hope this helps. |

No not at all.
However they do have a little bit of a different culture... racist? You'll find more racism in Saskatchewan then Quebec. |

I would say that outside of Montreal , Quebec is pretty racist. Especially in Gatineau, next to Ottawa. But it really depends on the person and etc. I'm not saying they are all racist. |

the better part of Quebec is extremely racist towards pretty much anyone who isn't French (especially the English)..
like most places, the farther you get from a major city to more prejudiced people are.. be it from a lack of exposure to other cultures, or just plain ignorance.. |
