Canadian Wife, English Husband- Moving to Canada?

I moved to England from Canada 4 years ago, am now a resident and married for 2 1/2 years.

Not yet, but sometime in the future, we want to move back to Canada. Can anybody who has done it give me some advice.

We are planning on marrying again under Canadian law.
I've started looking into it- but advice, tips and tricks, Time Scales would be really appreciated!
Additional Details
What a wonderful contribution.. thank you for that!

I only intended to leave Canada for a while. But fell in love.. what to do eh? I should have clarified that I am still a Canadian Citizen, I'm looking at how to get my husband in.

You are a Canadian citizen, married to a UK citizen.

You can return to Canada at any time, and he will be admitted on his UK passport. After arrival in Canada, apply for a "spousal work permit " for him, to allow him to work here, and at the same time, you can begin a application to "sponsor him for Permanent Resident status " Once he has PR status he can live here as long as he wants, and after 3 full years as a PR he can apply for his Canadian citizenship

DO NOT pay a lawyer to do this. If you can read, write and understand English, you can do it for yourselves. The forms are on the Citizenship and Immigration minstry website,

Read this:

Welcome HOME.

your husband automatically qualifies for entry based on our marital status and your citizenship. you dont need to be "remarried" in Canada as your license is valid
If kids are in your future you are making a smart move back. IMHO

well I think it's a very long process....check out the link below http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse-apply-how.asp

I dont think anyone in History has ever left Canada and decided to move back. Good Luck with that

Dead Day Afternoon
You can just move back.
Your hubby qualifies for Landed Immigrant status because he is married to you. It'll be no problem. I have a friend that married an Australian girl, lived over there for six years and then came back to Canada. They went to BC, and found an immigration lawyer who handled it all for a couple thousand bucks.

Why would you need to marry again? If it's a common heterosexual marriage there shouldn't be any problem with one country recognising a marriage in another country. If it was a civil partnership, then possibly there might be complications...

You need to sponsor your husband and he needs to apply for permanent residence - it will take a considerable time and cost a good few $100 - see the link below.
