Canadian dollar vs. American dollar?

the canadian dollar just passed the american dollar today, suckers. I think im gonna drive down to Buffalo, convert my beatiful canadian dollar into a thousand monopoly (american) dollars, and take advantage of the horrible american economy. My question is........who else in canada is taking advantage of this? and How long (if not forever) will the canadian dollar stay on top? I think the loonie is for real.

lol CHeers I agree with you . I read so many Americans complaining on here that its now too expensive for them .In the 70's our dollar was once higher than their as well .Its about time Lets all cheer on that they keep raging war with other countries and keep their troops their longer it also lowers their economy . Ofcourse you know many americand like dissing Canada but they get iritated when dissed back
The guy above is talking about Canadian education ...ma please the american education system only goes in their own backyards they have no clue about the world around them!

Cross-border shopping may make sense for some. I find it odd how some people race across the border to buy stuff because it's so "cheap" and the exchange is so good . . . but they don't factor in travel time (including waiting at the border both ways), gas, food, and possibly hotel. So unless you're really going to save many hundred or thousands of $$$, I don't see how it's worth it even if the exchange is good.

Now if you're combining shopping with a vacation or a business trip, then you discount all those other factors and you can load 'er up!

I shall at some point in the near future be going into Maine to do the same. Just remember the only reason our dollar is on par, is yes our ecomony, but the mighty american dollar has fallen on hard times. I think if the dollar starts to fall it will be short lived, and will bounce back up again, maybe not this strong but surely not as low as it was a few years ago.

Despite what TennisBoyUSA stated, prior to the '76(?) devaluation of the Canadian dollar to below the US dollar, the Canadian dollar was typically worth more. As much as $1.40US in the mid '60s I think it was.

As for this new spurt of value over the US Greenback...I don't really see it lasting too long. The US economy may be circling the bowl right now, but it won't sink all the way, mainly because it will take everyone within arms' reach with it for additional flotation.

Incidetally...if the US economy continues, you can be guaranteed that the US will find some poor sucker, and declare war in order to artificially prop-up it's economy, despire the semi-permanent damage that that actually does. After all, it Uncle Sam STILL has NOT recovered from the crash of '29...The CURRENT US Stock Market is approximately one HALF the actual dollar value of the Market prior to October, 1929.

Our dollar was only higher then the American $ for a short time today.

It closed at 99.989 I believe. Yes, it is basically on par.

However, that is NOT good news for a lot of our companies who trade with the US as the US may not buy as much because it's more expensive. That hurts Canada, it doesn't help.

For people who want to tour down in the States, yes it helps. Our economy is very strong right now and theirs is in the gutter. A lot of their people are hurting and are losing their homes, cars, etc. It's rather sad actually.

I hope you work in energy, because your exuberance can be misleading.

The rise of the loonie makes your goods and services more expensive to your largest trading partner. All things being equal that means less of your output will be purchased, which in turn, means you may or may not have a job in the future.

I ain't buyin sh*t from America. Why support their businesses? Support your fellow Canadians!! Buy local! Better quality and customer service anyway.

GO CANADA!!!

I'm American living in Canada, the only time Canada's dollar was really high was the 1800's when it was $2.75 but it's nice to see the loonie flying so high right now. I hope that economically Canada doesn't pay to heavy of a price before it's correction.

i like how canadian education system has failed to explain economics to their canadian youth. The rise in the canadian dollar wont last long. The only reason it surpassed the us dollar is due to the recent cut in interest rates. This has happened back in the 70's and like 20 years before that.. it happens every once in a while. its never long lived.
